Former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson appeared on ITV's Lorraine this morning (September 7) and spoke about the emotion of having his son watch him watch him perform in LA.
Louis, 30, who rarely speaks in public about the young son he shares with ex Briana Jungwirth, 28, told Lorraine his son was at "such a great age at the moment.”
Lorraine then asked: “Does he now know his dad’s a big deal?”
Louis laughed and said: “I’m not going to lie, until he watched my show on the tour in LA maybe four months ago, it had just been stories of me trying to explain to him what it is I do – obviously quite a difficult thing to explain really."
He added: “But it was amazing to watch him – I could see him, I spotted where he was, he’d arrived with his own little banner. He normally goes to bed at 7 o’clock, but he stayed up for the whole gig. It was definitely the most emotional gig I’ve done – it was amazing though.”
On being on tour, Louis said: “I haven’t spent a lot of time at home for a while, but I’m used to it.”
Lorraine commented on how incredible the One Direction phenomena was and Louis said: “It’s easier to see now from the outside looking in, definitely. It was a crazy, crazy time. (It was) amazing to be able to go through it with other people, it would have been quite scary to go through that experience on your own at that age.”
The TV host also asked the singer if fans can have hope for a One Direction reunion and Louis appeared optimistic as he said: “One day. There’s a lot of moving parts, but it would be a shame if we didn’t. It would be a shame if we didn’t.”
Lorraine suggested they all come together for a really big event and Louis said: “I hope so”.
The singer also spoke about recording his new album and how it’s different to his debut album. He revealed: “It was a bit of a process on my first record – there was an element of trial and error."
He added: “Obviously coming out of a band the size of One Direction, it takes time to find yourself, musically, but I really think I’ve found it on this album and this single.”
Lorraine said it’s an optimistic record and Louis replied: “That was a conscious decision. On my first record, there was a weight to it emotionally which I think was right for the time but I just wanted to break loose from that now and be optimistic.”
Lorraine added: “That’s where you are in yourself,” and Louis replied: “Exactly.”
Louis also revealed he had a chance to “declutter his brain” during lockdown.
Louis, who was in boyband One Direction along with fellow bandmates Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik told Lorraine: “Everyone’s experience is individual. For myself, I spend a lot of my life thinking about what the next thing is. And there’s always an element of pressure in my life, which I’m used to.
“What was great about that time was it gave me a chance to declutter my brain and really think about the next record, and what do I want it to sound and feel like?
“If I didn’t have that time to reset, it may well have been a different record, so I feel happy to have that time.”
