Love Island producers deny stepping in after Shaq ‘made off-camera threat to Martin’

Love Island producers have denied having to step in and break up a potential fight in the villa as Shaq Muhammad was reported to make an "off-camera threat to Martin" following the recoupling.

During Thursday night's explosive instalment, viewers watched as a heartbroken Shaq learned that the woman he loved – Tanya Manhenga – had decided to recouple with Martin Akinola after Casa Amor.

While 24 year old Shaq had held on to the hope that he and Tanya could patch things up in their relationship after they left it on a sour note, the latter had been stewing on the islander's "red flags" for days.

Shaq kept his cool as he sadly told host Maya Jama "it is what it is" in relation to the shock recoupling, but behind the scenes, things reportedly became tense between the original islander and new bombshell Martin during the next episode – which will see plenty more drama.

It was claimed that producers even had to "step in" and break things up before they went too far between the pair.

"Martin wasn't happy about the way he felt Shaq disrespected Tanya at the recoupling ceremony viewers saw last night," a source told The Sun.

"Some cross words were exchanged between the pair. Shaq was heard saying that if Martin gives him any more words he's going to 'turn his lights off'."

ITV has now told OK!: "No such encounter took place and at no point did producers have to 'step in' as suggested."

Yet now ITV have also confirmed that the latest instalment will actually see a completely amicable and calm understanding between the two men.

"Shaq tells Martin there's 'no hard feelings' and says there's 'no animosity' between the pair of them," in the episode.

But as tensions continue to fizzle in the villa following an incredibly emotional and unexpected recoupling this year, many couples remain in flux.

Tanya attempted to justify her decision as she insisted she hadn't expected to feel any strong vibes with anyone in Casa Amor, let alone more than Shaq, but was determined to "give it more time".

While Tanya had seemed certain of her choice in Martin, she left most of the islanders puzzled when she insisted it wasn't the end between her and Shaq.

Despite her proclamations, Shaq fired back that he was "done" and wished good luck to Martin.

Farmer Will Young was also seen breaking down in tears in the decoupling, as he was devastated to reveal the truth of his kiss with Layla to Jessie Wynter.

The fan-favourite said the tests and experience of Casa Amor had been a real struggle and he felt so guilty for hurting Jessie.

While fans hope the pair can clear the air and rekindle their romance in the villa, Jessie immediately told Will she needs time and wasn't ready to speak to him yet.

Love Island continues every night at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX
