New Love Island contestant Liam Llewellyn has kept quiet about his famous sports star dad.
The Newport student, 22, has more in common with former partner Gemma Owen, 19, than it may seem, as they both come from well-known sporting families.
Liam’s dad has been revealed to be Welsh rugby hero David Llewelyn, a former Wales International Rugby Union player.
David, known as Dai to friends, now trains other professional athletes including new Welsh boxing talent Joe Cordina, who won the super-featherweight title this month.
He won four caps for Wales between 1998 and 1999, featured a further twelve times on the bench, appeared in the 1999 Rugby World Cup as a replacement, and played in the last Five Nations tournament.
Now he works at Fitness First Cardiff East as a personal trainer.
After Joe Cordina’s incredible boxing victory this week, David posted on social media: “Great see @JoeCordina_91 champion of the world. One of my youngest ever clients .
“I new he would be great as he had that mindset as a teenager. So proud of you joe and your mother and dad will be so proud too! #championoftheworld #joecordina #boxing #champ.”
Liam is following in his dad’s footsteps by pursuing personal training and a career in strength and conditioning.
The Islander’s grandfather Pancho was also into boxing, rugby, and, like Gemma Owen, horses.
It seems that Liam actually has many similarities to ex partner Gemma, who were briefly coupled up during the series.
Gemma’s father is Michael Owen, famous England footballer turned pundit, and she is a professional dressage rider with twelve horses at home.
Sadly, Liam and Gemma did not have time to explore these similarities as she was chosen by Italian newbie Davide Sanclimenti, 27, on Tuesday night’s episode.
Liam has now been left single and at risk of being dumped from the Island if he does not woo another contestant and partner up with them in the next recoupling.
Luckily, two new bombshells will be entering the villa tonight, and the public have voted on which two boys will be going on a date with the girls in the next episode.
Afia Tonkmor, 25, and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu, 27, are hoping to turn some heads in the villa.
London born Afia works as a lounge host at a private members’ club and has jetted off to Mallorca to find a “summer romance” whilst also having “so much fun”.
Ekin-Su is a Turkish actress who splits her time between Istanbul and the UK.
She has starred in a Turkish TV series called Kuzey Yildizi.
Now, the brunette beauty is looking for a “genuine spark” with someone inside the villa.
Perhaps one of these two bombshells could save Liam from being dumped from the island.
