Love Island star Olivia Hawkins has revealed the shocking moment her co-stars managed to access the internet during their stint in the villa.
OK!'s weekly Love Island columnist spent seven weeks on the smash hit reality dating show, shacked up in South Africa earlier this year, where the winter edition was filmed.
Speaking exclusively to us, Olivia, 28, revealed the producers “don’t miss a trick”, and the reality stars’ attempts at having a private conversation were regularly quashed.
But, in a surprising turn of events, some of her former co-stars managed to get on the internet – and decided to show one another where they lived.
She told us: “Some of the boys – I think it was Kai, Tom and someone else – they managed to get on to Google Maps or something. I don't know how they cracked it – we don't have access to the internet in there.
“They found people's houses – they were putting in each other's addresses and showing each other their houses on satellite, and they were looking at Will's farm. They got in trouble, obviously, but they still managed to get access to the internet or something. I don't know how.”
Olivia also revealed, in their desire to share “secret messages” between one another, they’d often resort to getting under the sheets and trying to spell things out, but it “didn't really work”.
She explained: “I think in previous seasons, they used to be able to take their phones up to the bedrooms and they could message and show each other under the bed, but we had to keep our phones downstairs at night.
“We used to try and write messages in code under the sheets but obviously it's dark, so you can't really see to have secret messages with your partner. It didn't really work.”
The reality star continued: “They don't miss a trick – you cannot get away with anything, even if you try and mouth something to someone, they will see.”
Both the South African and Spanish villas are packed with cameras in a bid to catch every piece of gossip, every sly look, and every juicy moment of drama, which meant nothing was ever missed.
Olivia said: “You've just got to imagine, they have a gallery, they call it, and it was just one room of loads of screens and multiple people just watching every single camera. There must be someone on each camera at all points because they don't miss anything.
“The work they put into it, it's really incredible. It's so fun, and I think that it's needed – it really is great television. I love it.”
She recalled speaking to one producer every day during her stint on the show – though she still doesn't have any idea what he looks like. Explaining the process of offloading directly to a camera in the Beach Hut, Olivia said: “You've got the little seat, and then you're just looking straight at the camera, and then they're talking to you.
“That's the weird part about it, actually, because there was one producer, Lee – everyone loved him, he was such a babe – but we never got to meet him.
“I spoke to him for seven weeks and I've never met him face to face. I always used to say, ‘Lee, I really want to meet you, am I ever gonna get to meet you?’
“And he'd be like ‘hopefully, yeah’. A few of them, they'd pop in if they had a chance just to say hey, but yeah, we barely got to meet any of them.”
Meanwhile, in this week's instalment of Liv's Love Island column for OK!, the former villa resident said she can't see any of the couples “going the distance”.
The star said: “I don't think one couple will last on the outside. I think this is the first season where I'm just not really invested in the couples. It's been very dramatic and that's great for the viewer, and it keeps us on edge, but in terms of actual couples, I don't really see any going the distance.”
