Love Island’s Sammy and Jess awkwardly sit at same table at Pride Of Britain after split

Love Island exes Sammy Root and Jess Harding were forced to come together over the weekend, as they were seated on the same table at the Pride Of Britain Awards.

Fellow Love Islander Tyrique Hyde took to Instagram Stories with a video from the event, where he panned the table to show an awkward-looking Sammy sitting opposite his ex-girlfriend Jess.

The pair, who had walked the red carpet separately, were tucking into a meal alongside Ty and his girlfriend Ella Thomas. Also joining them were winter Love Island 2023 winners Kai Fagan and Sanam Harrinanan, who recently opened up about their home life to OK! magazine.

Jess and Sammy's awkward encounter on Sunday 8 October came just days after it was confirmed the pair had gone their separate ways.

Jess, who recently returned home from a holiday in Ibiza, took to Instagram to confirm the news during a Q&A session. When one follower asked how she was faring since the split, Jess replied: "It's been over a week now since we split, so I'm getting there. We shared a once in a lifetime experience together, so of course I'm sad."

Jess, 23, remained tight-lipped about the reasons behind the break-up, continuing: "I really don't want to go into detail by doing a big statement, but we're just very different and behave differently and that's it."

While a source told Mail Online that they'd realised they were "better off as friends".

Sammy, however, was keen to share his "total shock" over the split news with fans, after the news broke. In a statement on Instagram, the 22 year old penned, "Hi guys. I thought I would come online to address today's news about me and Jess.

"Yes we had a private conversation regarding our relationship but this was left up in the air as Jess is still away and we haven't had a chance to speak in person. For me to then see today via the media that we had officially broken up came as a total shock.

"To be totally clear – I at least wanted a face to face conversation to see if our relationship could be saved and felt this would be the respectful way forward.

"We had the most incredible experience winning Love Island and I genuinely saw a future with Jess. I was committed and respectful to our relationship. Unfortunately things don't always work out the way you'd hoped."

He concluded: "Despite how this has all played out today, I think Jess is an amazing woman and genuinely wish her all the best."
