As the penultimate dinner party in Married at First Sight got underway on Wednesday, 1 November, there was more drama afoot for viewers at home, as Jordan Gayle and Erica Roberts came to blows in front of their fellow participants.
The couple had already got off to a rocky start this week, following a physical altercation between Jordan and groom Luke Worley, which saw Luke eliminated from the process for attacking him.
In the wake of the attack, Jordan had found his OCD was exacerbated and this led to him and bride Erica opting out of couple-swap week, something Erica appeared to be holding a grudge about.
Yet rather than inform Jordan of this prior to attending the dinner party, it was only after hearing the cheerful stories of the other couples that she began to raise the point with Jordan in front of their fellow dinner party guests.
Opening up about how she felt she had “missed out” on the experience, Erica proceeded to invalidate Jordan’s point of view as she complained how she had done everything and missed out on the experiment for his wellbeing, something he had failed to acknowledge from her perspective.
Feeling attacked, Jordan could be seen to grow increasingly uncomfortable as he tried to defend himself and even looked on the verge of tears at one point before he excused himself from the table to try and calm down.
In tense scenes that followed, Erica followed him out and proceeded to launch a scathing attack on her husband, while completely missing the point that he had only opted out of the task due to his mental health condition.
Fans at home couldn’t help but feel for poor Jordan during the tense exchange, as many slammed Erica for failing to understand what life with OCD was truly like.
Taking to Twitter to share their thoughts, many fans didn’t hold back as they weighed in on the situation.
One fan wrote: “This entire fallout is exactly the issue with people not understanding OCD. They do not understand how stressful it is and therefore are seeing Jordan’s decision as selfish. I wish they’d had some education around the illness before this dinner party.”
A second fan then weighed in and wrote: “No one seems to understand or respect the fact that Jordan has OCD. He’s being treated like he just couldn’t be a**ed doing the task is disgusting.”
Before a third fan echoed the sentiment and wrote: “I’m in Jordan’s defence — if a man had that response to a woman’s anxiety we would be destroying him.”
While a fourth added: “So disgusted by the bullying I’m watching against Jordan now.”
Despite the tense situation, there was some joy to be found however, when fellow groom Thomas reached out to Jordan to offer him some support after realising how isolated he had been.
Acknowledging that things had been tense, Thomas told Jordan that he was always there for him, to hang out, have a drink, or go to the gym, something that touched many fans at home.
One viewer wrote: ”Thomas is a sweetheart for extending the olive branch to Jordan – you can see he’s an empath a mile off!”
Before a second fan agreed: “That was so sweet Thomas! Jordan definitely needs a friend in his corner.”
