It’s kicking off on E4’s Married at First Sight, with groom Luke Worley being booted off the show due to an altercation with co-star Jordan Gayle hitting the headlines.
Now their fellow MAFS star Georges Berthonneau has revealed that Luke wasn’t the only one to “clash” with Jordan, who was “calculated” in stirring up drama.
“I just think he had a tactic when he went into the experiment, which was, ‘If I argue with everyone, then I’m going to annoy everyone and then I’m more likely to feature,’” Georges says. “Just focus on your relationship. Don’t get involved.
“There’d be conversations at dinner parties and he hears a key word at the other end of the table and puts his two pence in. It’s like, ‘What are you doing?’ I think it’s the way the world is going, a lot of people are more calculated these days.”
He adds that while he had disagreements with Luke throughout the show, the husband to Jay Howard just “spits facts”.
“It doesn’t make you a bad person just because you’re openly honest,” he says.
Content creator Georges was paired up with Kent-based risk partner Peggy Rose, 32, on the show – and quickly angered fans when he made comments about his new bride’s breasts in his debut episode.
“I was the most hated man ever to have appeared on the show because I mentioned boobs,” he admits. “I haven’t tried to defend my actions. I’ve just gone ‘I’m sorry’ because what I said and did was a previous me, it was a very locker room Georges. And it wasn’t sensible.”
So far in the show, we’ve seen the couple struggle with Georges’ divisive personality – and unfortunately that’s just the beginning of their romantic troubles.
“There’s a narrative that ends up getting pushed so it ends up being quite hard for me being isolated from the group.
“That’s very much the start of a difficult period because I never cared about people’s opinions. I didn’t get a choice, I had to care or I had to not care and say bye to Peggy. My partner cared about what people thought, and I couldn’t give a flying f**k.”
MAFS isn’t Georges’ first brush with TV. He appeared on Celebs Go Dating and got on “really well” with reality star Chloe Sims – but she didn’t feel the same. “It was obvious that she was doing it for financial gain because the second the show ended, I was like, ‘Let’s do something’ and she was like, ‘The distance is too far.’”
Georges gave dating shows another go with MAFS and says Peggy was the perfect match for him – although he also had his eye on co-star Ella Morgan.
“Peggy’s beautiful and actually, I wouldn’t have gone with anyone else. But if you put a gun to my head, I would have picked Ella,” he admits.
“We would have gotten on like a house on fire. Ella and I spoke throughout and whatnot. She’s a hoot, me and her have a very, very similar sense of humour, very inappropriate, very outspoken, very outrageous.”
