During Thursday night’s episode of the explosive E4 reality series, Whitney Hughes threatened to leave the experiment after branding her husband Duka Cav “fake”. She had recently overheard a conversation where Duka exclaimed he was going to receive a lot of attention from other girls on the outside. This left Whitney feeling insecure and annoyed at his actions, finally breaking down and leaving the commitment ceremony exclaiming she was done with the experiment.

When it came to the commitment ceremony, experts Mel Schilling, Paul Carrick Brunson and Charlene Douglas were eager to find out how the pair were getting along.

Touching on how she was feeling, Whitney exclaimed: “He talks every day about ‘When the experiment is done, I am going to get so many girls in my DMs [direct messages].

“So you want me to be here, be genuine and in a relationship with someone who is here for fame, like what do you want from me?

“I wanted to find someone who I can legitimately connect with and find myself!”

“So why are you not working for it?” Paul interrupted and asked to which Whitney abruptly slammed: “Because I can’t when it is not real on his side.

“I feel like the trust, we were slowly building trust and I feel like trust has gone back down again.”

Getting frustrated with the situation, Duka admitted: “I apologise for the comments I may have made but at the same time I also know my self-worth, in terms of the past.

“Because I may not be good enough for you in this process, I am sure I’ll be good enough for someone else.”

Whitney interrupted his explanation and slammed: “You are twisting your words, I am sitting quietly and I’m not correcting and saying, ‘Oh no actually’.

“It was a lot worse than your portraying it. I am keeping quiet and allowing you to represent yourself well but when it is the other way round your like, ‘Urgh yeah’.”

Mel Schilling interjected: “Can I join the conversation? I have been doing this for nearly a decade and I don’t think I have seen as much eye-rolling on the couch from anyone else and that is sarcasm, do you really want to be here?”

Whitney bluntly replied: “No, I’m closed off to it now. I can’t open up to someone who, I know that for you is a short thing and once you’re outside, onto the next girl.

“How am I supposed to be vulnerable to a person like that? I can’t. I have been through s**t so yeah I do have my walls up and then when someone is behaving that way it is harder to let them all down.

“So I can’t because I am exposing myself up to hurt, I don’t want to do it, I have had enough, I don’t want anymore that is enough,” she added before getting up and walking out of the room.

After taking a moment to control her emotions, she returned to the sofa but noticeably further away from Duka.

“I feel like I have said everything I needed to say. I can’t fake it. Well done to anybody here who can put on the act but I just can’t do it. I have had enough, I am just drained.”

Mel explained to Whitney that they will end their spotlight discussion but needed to know what her decision was, to which Whitney exclaimed: “I think it is pretty obvious what I wrote.”

She held up the envelope which read “leave” before Duka explained: “I genuinely believe there has been such a massive miscommunication on both camps with everything.

“I do want love and I do want a family, I do want to build with someone, it is easier to leave and not deal with the stress.

“But I am not someone who gives up easily, I have written stay because I want to fight for this, fight for her. I am not perfect I know that but God knows I am trying,” Duka said before holding up his envelope which said “stay”.

The rules of the experiment mean that if one person says they want to stay, the couple needs to stay for another week to see if they can work out their issues.

Mel asked Whitney: “Would you be prepared to press pause and just spend 24 hours contemplating this?”

The episode ended on a major cliffhanger, leaving viewers guessing what Whitney will decide to do.

Married at First Sight airs Monday-Thursday from 9pm on E4.
