For well over a decade, the likes of Martin Clunes, Caroline Quentin, Leslie Ash and Neil Morrisey had BBC viewers in stitches in a sitcom, Men Behaving Badly. While murmurs of a reunion continue to ripple through TV fans even to this day, Caroline joined Alan Titchmarsh on ITV’s Love Your Weekend to shed light on how the cast still gets on nearly 20 years since the show went off the air.

And Caroline made no secret of her fondness for Martin – and how he made sure they got to spend more time together while he filmed ITV’s Doc Martin.

“Do you keep up with Martin Clunes?” Alan asked Caroline during Sunday’s show.

“You know, you can’t get away from him really!” Alan quipped before Caroline revealed: “No, he’s my best friend still.”

“Is he?” a surprised Alan weighed in before Caroline explained how Martin facilitated her stint on the medical drama-comedy.

“I see him all the time, yep, I saw him a couple of weeks ago,” she began.

“Of course, I’ve been in Doc Martin as well… we weren’t seeing much of each other so he very kindly found a role that I could go and play.”

However, it wasn’t just an on-screen role that showed how Martin went above and beyond to reunite with Caroline.

“Then we lived together while I was filming,” Caroline added. “So we actually got to spend a bit more quality time together.”

“Well, Doc Martin is becoming quite the family favourite,” Alan added before they played a clip of Caroline in character on Doc Martin.

Caroline ended up playing dog owner and self-proclaimed dog whisperer Angela Sim in four episodes of Doc Martin.

Her first appearance came in 2015 before she returned briefly in 2017 and 2019

After watching the clip of Angela clashing with Martin’s character, Alan laughed as he quipped: “A slightly different relationship to Men Behaving Badly.”

Holding her hands to her head, Caroline replied: “We laughed all day that day!

“That’s a take where we’re not laughing. There’s something about me and Clunesy which means we just laugh all the time.“

Caroline went on to reveal that her personal ties to the ITV series run even deeper as her daughter was cast in the final ever season.

“My daughter is now playing one of the bevvy girls, I wasn’t there but she did a few days on it,” Caroline revealed.

“She also said, ‘It’s impossible to work with him without laughing!’”

Alan then reflected on his own relationship with Martin and had nothing but praise for the actor.

“He’s like Eric Morecambe,” Alan said. “He walks in and you laugh. It’s a gift really.”

Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh airs Sundays on ITV.
