Spider Nugent is set to make a return to the cobbles after 19 years.
It was confirmed in April that Martin Hancock, who played Spider from 1997 to 2003, would be making a return to Coronation Street this year.
Long-time Corrie fans will remember that Spider was the nephew of Emily Bishop and was also known for his on and off relationship with Toyah Battersby.
But Spider and Toyah made their exit from Weatherfield in 2003 as they moved to London together.
In 2016 Toyah, who’s played by Georgie Taylor, returned to the show and confirmed that she had split from Spider.
But now, nearly two decades on from his last appearance, Spider is set to return in a shocking comeback.
Here’s what we know about his arrival back in Weatherfield.
When does Spider return to Corrie?
Spider will return to Weatherfield this Friday (July 1).
His comeback episode will air at 8pm on ITV.
It’s not known how long he will return for but Martin hinted that he could be back for the long term.
He told the Manchester Evening News: "As long as the governor Iain [Macleod – Corrie's executive producer] can put up with me and the writers are happy to write for me, I'm happy to stay."
What will happen when Spider returns to Corrie?
Friday’s episode will see Spider make a surprise appearance in Weatherfield during ex-girlfriend Toyah’s protest against waste incineration.
Toyah is currently on bail after she was arrested for the murder of Imran Habeeb, to which she pleaded not guilty.
In Friday’s episode, Toyah will get a shock as Spider joins her in the cab of a bin wagon as he exclaims: “Long time, no see!”
Later on, the characters will catch up and Toyah will invite Spider to stay over after breaking down about Imran’s death.
With Spider’s return, there could be a chance that the couple could rekindle their romance.
