Mrs Brown's Boys creator reveals future plans for live show – and they're sure to ruffle feathers | The Sun

MRS Brown’s Boys creator Brendan O’Carroll has revealed juicy details about his upcoming live show and the future of Mrs Brown, which is sure to ruffle feathers.

Spoiler; Mrs Brown isn’t going anywhere until she’s forcibly removed.

Agnes Brown is having a resurgence in 2023. Not only is everyone’s favourite Irish battle axe return for a brand new series of the hit BBC comedy in September, but Mrs Brown will make appearances across the country as the live show Mrs Brown Rides Again is revived.

The character has now appeared across film, TV, stage and radio, with the popular series spawning a movie in 2014 and yearly Christmas specials.

Creator and star Brendan, now 68, is pulling out that familiar wig and donning one of Mrs Brown’s signature floral dresses to put on a brand new show.

Speaking to the Lancashire Post, Brendan commented on the universal appeal of Mrs Brown, saying: “Everybody seems to know Mrs Brown. She’s kind of that wild aunt or grandma that turns up [to] the wedding all dressed to the nines, but after three or four vodkas, she stands on the table waving their knickers in the air.”

The live show, which is coming to Blackpool Opera House for three nights in November, is billed as Mammy’s last few days home with her dysfunctional family. However, according to Brendan, that doesn’t mean she’ll be going quietly.

He admitted that he wants to keep going as Mrs Brown for as long as possible and teased that he’s not going to stop until he’s dragged off stage.

“I want to do a Tommy Cooper. I want to be dragged off the stage, and have the audience laughing because they think it’s part of the show,” he said.

Brendan added: “You’ll have to drag me off. You’ll have to shoot me.”

Viewers will definitely be in for a long night if that really does happen during this live show.

Brendan is excited to be returning to Blackpool next month after his first ever show there after Covid sold out. It was a really special and “different vibe” for him as a performer.

The reappearance of Mrs Brown and the upcoming live show is a dream come true for some longtime fans. However, it’s sure to ruffle feathers as other BBC viewers have long been calling for the show to be cancelled.

Speaking on the controversial nature of his alter ego, Brendan admitted: “Mrs Brown gets away with stuff I’d never get away with.”

But he ignores concerns about cancel culture. Doing an impression of Mrs Brown, he joked: “Cancelled from what? I don’t do Twitter, I don’t do social media.”

This new Mrs Brown’s Boys adventure was written prior to the new season of the BBC TV series, and according to Brendan, it “is the funniest of the five” stage plays he has written, and is even funnier than Mrs Brown D’Musical.

“If they were leaving the musical having laughed and tapped their feet, they’re gonna be absolutely cramped with this. It’s definitely the funniest of them,” Brendan teased.

And be believes the live show is just what people need right now.

Brendan added: “Right now, the way things are going, the way the cost of living has gone, the fallout from Brexit, even the weather, everybody’s feeling a little bit miserable right now.
