Now, we know a soap wedding is never going to be smooth sailing, but we’re absolutely gobsmacked by what EastEnders has in store for Kathy Beale’s (Gillian Taylforth) upcoming nuptials to Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley).
Fans of classic EastEnders will know just what an icon Kathy is, and this wedding is set to live up to that status, as executive producer King – sorry Chris – Clenshaw has teased.
‘We’ve got Rocky and Kathy’s nuptials and there’s an unexpected guest who arrives and watch out for the cufflinks around this episode.’
Well.
There’s a lot to breakdown in that one succinct sentence, so allow us to do the honours.
Kathy Beale has a lot of contacts judging by the address book that left Rocky baffled, so any number of them could be the ‘unexpected guest’ Chris mentions.

People like Michelle Fowler and Ted Hills will likely receive invites to the ceremony, with Kathy having already said that she wants the whole family there.
With Ian and Cindy Beale (Adam Woodyatt and Michelle Collins) back on the scene, Cindy would certainly be an unexpected guest in Kathy’s eyes.
The pair have always harboured an admirable hatred for each other, so Cindy’s appearance would surely cause fireworks on what should be the happiest day of Kathy’s life.
However, Dot’s funeral saw Kathy reconnect with an old acquaintance as Disa O’Brien (Jan Graveson) returned to Walford to pay her respects.
Kathy had helped Disa open up to her mother about the abuse she had suffered at the hands of her step-dad during her time working for the Samaritans back in 1991.
If Kathy and Disa have kept in contact following their surprise meeting, could Disa be set to make another trip down south to attend Kathy’s wedding?
While we’re on the subject of classic EastEnders characters, could Kathy’s friend Rachel Kominski make a shock comeback?
Kathy and Rachel worked together in the café, but grew particularly close when Rachel helped Kathy face rapist Wilmott-Brown when he returned to the Square following his prison sentence in 1992.
There are so many possibilities as to who the mystery guest could be, and under Clenshaw’s reign, anything feels possible.
Moving on, there’s that small matter of the cufflinks.
If the sheer mention of that accessory doesn’t send shivers down your spine, then we’re afraid you’re just not as invested as us in this story.
(What do you mean you don’t have a wall of murder clues?)
For those of you not in the loop, EastEnders previously teased a Christmas Day murder in a flashforward scene that had us all gasping for breath.
Viewers will know that the only clue to the identity of the body on the Queen Vic floor is a pair of extravagant cufflinks worn by the victim as Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) pronounces him dead.
The fact that they are set to appear during Kathy’s wedding is a ground-breaking piece of information, as we may finally get some idea of who the victim will be.
It remains to be seen how many sets of cufflinks will appear at this point, with EastEnders having teased that there are four sets in total.
Could we be introduced to our first possible target, or will all four cufflinks appear at once and continuously change hands until that fateful Christmas day?
With Kathy at the centre of the action for both her wedding day and the Christmas murder, we’re sure that things will slowly start to fall into place.
We’re still desperate to know who that mystery guest is though…
