After two nail biting weeks of daily romantic drama, ITV’s brand new dating show My Mum, Your Dad came to it’s exciting conclusion on Friday night.
Unlike other dating shows such as Love Island which attracted a much younger demographic, the new format show hoped to connect single parents together in the hope of finding love – all while under the watchful eye of their grown up children.
Hosted by Davina McCall, the show has been an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish, with several promising couples formed along the way.
In the season’s grand finale, the truth was finally revealed to the parents that their children had been watching their interactions over the past fortnight – before they gave their all important blessings to their parents as to whether or not they would be happy for them to continue their blossoming romances.
But while the show did end with three couples receiving the go-ahead from their children to embark on a new romance, fans were left on tenterhooks as they wanted to know if Roger and Janey, Natalie and Paul and Sharon and Elliott were still together now that the show had ended.
It was this burning question that saw several fans take to social media to beg ITV for an update episode, as they wanted to know who was still going strong now that the retreat was officially over.
One fan wrote: “#MyMumYourDad @ThisisDavina Hey, will there be a follow up after this series as I am dying to know how the three couples will get on afterwards? Pleeeaassse.”
A second echoed the sentiment adding: “@ThisisDavina I hope we get an update after the last episode on how all the couples are doing?! #MyMumYourDad”
Before a third fan wrote: “@ThisisDavina please tell us there is a coming out show / what happened after #MyMumYourDad.”
Alongside an update episode, fans also called on ITV to produce another series of the show after they fell in love with the “brilliant” and “refreshing” format of the change from other dating shows on the market.
“@ThisisDavina Thank you thank you thank you for the last 2 weeks with #MyMumYourDad out had been amazing. I really hope we get another series. You have been brilliant and I will miss watching the show and thank you for the link of the soundtrack it's brilliant,” wrote one fan.
A second also commented, writing: “My Mum your Dad was absolutely amazing! I was so invested in (most of) the couples. Who said over 40s couldn’t make a show based on love that people would want to watch? The kids were so mature and loved their parents so much Brilliant TV.”
Before a third added “Please, please do another My Mum Your Dad series. This has to be one of the best shows that ITV have commissioned. My 81yr old mum said she wished they did one for people her age as she would love to be on it x.”
While ITV has yet to confirm if the show will return in the future, Davina did recently tease that she would love to see a celebrity version in the future.
“I want to present this show for the rest of my life. A celebrity version would be so good — how many single celebs are there? I'm interviewing now,” Davina cheekily told The Sun.
