Neighbours' Michelle Scully star reveals major news after shock stage four cancer diagnosis | The Sun

NEIGHBOURS actress Kate Keltie has revealed she is cancer-free just four months after receiving a stage four diagnosis.

The former soap star, who played Michelle Scully, was said to be "in a fight for her life" before undergoing chemotherapy late last year.

Fortunately, Kate, 37, responded well to the treatment and updated a GoFundMe page, which had been set up to raise funds for her, with some good news.

She wrote: "I recently received results of my latest scan and was told that there had been a complete metabolic response to diseased areas.

"In other words, it seems I am cancer-free."

The page, which has been deactivated after achieving its goal, raised a total of $37,000 – some $12,000 more than its original target.

Two thousand dollars of the the total was donated by Holly Candy and her businessman husband Nick. Holly, who is better known professionally as Holly Valance, played Kate's on-screen sister Felicity for five years from 1999 to 2004.

Kate's uncle Michael told Daily Mail Australia: "All I know is that she qualified for a particular type of treatment and had it.

"When she went back with her mother and father, the doctor said, 'It's gone – it's completely gone'.

"They didn't know what they were hearing when they were told. They said, 'What do you mean, it's gone?'

It had previously been reported that Kate's cancer had spread to other parts of her body, including her lymph nodes, blood and hip bones, a friend explained.

Fundraisers warned that Kate would lose her hair and not be able to carry children in the future.

The money was used to help pay her rent, specialist medical appointments and wig and specialist skin products.

Kate's cousin Ebony Gilbert said: "Our independent Kate would never ask for help, let alone financial assistance. However, we know it's what she will need, so here we are.

"Being unable to work and earn an income during this time has been a tough blow.

"By chipping in together, we can cover some living costs and try to remove financial stress off Kate's plate (cancer is enough, thanks world!)"

The star replied: "Hi everyone. I am so sorry I haven't had a chance to thank you all personally yet- stay with me, I'll get there!

"I just wanted to say thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your support, and messages and phone calls.

Kate added: "It's so amazing to know I have so many incredible people in my corner.

"I've just got over COVID and I start my first round of chemotherapy tomorrow, and you really have no idea how my head space has changed going into it because of each and every one of you."

She concluded: "Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. Kate x."
