AceShowbiz -It has been reported that Netflix is looking to further capitalize on the huge success of hit South Korean drama “Squid Game“. According to a new report, the streaming giant has ordered an American remake of the show with David Fincher (“The Game“, “Fight Club“) allegedly being attached to the project.
Trusted industry insider Jeff Sneider of “The Hot Mic” podcast claimed on Twitter, “Netflix is courting David Fincher to produce and direct an American take on ‘Squid Game’.” Jeff additionally noted that while it remains unknown if the acclaimed filmmaker is actually engaging with Netflix on the matter, he said that Netflix “badly” wants David to helm the project.
Fans, however, appeared to be against the idea of “Squid Game” remake. “The original SQUID GAME didn’t need to be in English or originate in America for it to become an international phenomenon and Netflix’s most-watched series ever. This is the stupidest f**king idea I’ve ever heard, and an insult to the show and its cast and crew,” a fan tweeted.
“America is already an American remake of Squid Game,” another added. “Everyone’s already watched squid game, so i guess this is just for mega-racists who refused to watch it the first time because it had asians in it?” someone else commented.
Another fan said, “Squid Game was an international phenomenon. We don’t need an ‘American’ version. Plus, technically, you can watch it in English.” Someone even called “American Squid Game” “the worst idea ever.”
Meanwhile, season 2 of “Squid Game” is set to start its production soon. “Squid Game 2 will begin filming in the summer and the filming will likely last for about 10 months. We were working on season 1 for about 10 months as well, but that was with delays caused by COVID-19. But seeing as season 2 will be bigger in scale, it will probably take longer to complete,” star Lee Jung-jae shared in an interview with Ilgan Sports from London.
The actor went on to share insights into his character Gi-Hun in season two. “As we all saw at the end of season 1, the main plot of season 2 will be revenge, and the key figure who controlled the workings of the games in season 1 was Lee Byung Hun, so it seems that the two of us will be the central figures of this next story. This is the first time that I’ll be working with Lee Byung Hun, actually. Well, we worked on a drama called White Nights 3.98 back in the day, but we didn’t have any scenes together,” Lee explained.
