The Voice: Judges struggle to make decision
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from The Voice.
The Voice US could have collapsed into chaos after new judge Niall Horan floated the idea of quitting just moments into the “hard” Battle Rounds. The former One Direction star said he wasn’t ever “coming back” to the popular NBC show after Monday’s intense follow-up to the competition.
Niall Horan shocked The Voice fans after joking he was never “coming back” to the popular singing programme on NBC.
Monday night’s episode saw the intense Battle Rounds, in which judges are able to “steal” talent to really ramp up the competition.
It was the third instalment of the show’s nail-biting stage for judges Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Chance the Rapper and Niall.
The battles see judges pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together.
During Monday’s episode, Team Kelly’s D. Smooth and Ali captivated coaches with a performance of Unaware by Allen Stone.
Niall said: “It was just an unbelievable duet.”
“There was no battling in it. It was just two great singers giving each other room to do their thing.”
After Clarkson praised Ali, who was born deaf, for his “God-given talent”, she picked him as the battle winner – before Chance used his steal.
But it was Team Niall singers Ryley Tate Wilson and Michael B that really caused a stir after their performance of Giveon’s Heartbreak Anniversary.
“That was one of the best performances that we’ve seen in the battle rounds so far,” Chance said. “It was incredible how you guys bounced off of each other.”
Feeling the pressure was Niall, who couldn’t decide after his team’s performance.
“If they ask me to come back (to the show), I’m not coming back,” he said during Monday night’s battle.

Niall added: “I cannot tell you how hard this is. The performance from the two of you was just off the charts. You sung beautifully together.”
He ultimately picked Michael B as the battle’s winner before hitting his playoff pass button for 15-year-old Wilson.
Niall said: “We definitely have a potential winner on Team Niall, and his name is Ryley Tate Wilson.”
Taking to Twitter after Monday’s nail-biting episode, fan @flickerofgold wrote: “Niall choosing Michael & then giving Ryley Tate the Playoff Pass is so fantastic!!”
User @niallernroses added: “The fact two other coaches used their only steal on someone of team Niall really shows Niall formed the winning team!
“This basically means 8 out of 10 get to stay how amazing is that?
While @elizanhurd explained: “Niall and Ryley Tate is probably my favourite coach/contestant pairing of this season.
“It feels like Niall is paying it forward by mentoring him. #TheVoice”
The Voice continues Mondays on NBC in the USA.
