One lie leads to another they say, and that’s certainly true for Nicky (Lewis Cope) in Emmerdale, as the fake fiancé and pretend nanny has just added more lies to his long list in an attempt to get his wedding to Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) over with as quickly as possible.
Nicky is pretending to be madly in love with Gabby to help his dad Caleb (William Ash) with his plan to destroy Kim Tate (Claire King) by taking all of her money and property. As Gabby’s son Thomas is Kim’s grandson, Nicky’s part of the plan is to get access to any assets that Kim may have put in Thomas’s name.
We’ve seen recently that pretending to be devoted to Gabby does not come easily to Nicky and a huge reason for that is that he’s gay and is in love with a man called Ally (Josh Horrocks). Caleb didn’t know about Nicky’s sexuality but when Nicky told him recently his reaction was that he was supportive – but not if anything jeopardised his scheme. He told Nicky to stop seeing Ally until after their plans had been successful.
Nicky did as he was asked but it hurt him to do so as we saw in Monday (May 22)’s episode as he looked sadly at pictures of Ally on his phone.
When Gabby and Nicky set a wedding date it was originally planned for November, as Gabby insisted it would take a lot of organising. But with Caleb’s plans moving faster than expected, his dad wanted Nicky to get Gabby to bring the wedding date forward.
So Nicky sat down with Gabby and told her he’d spoken to his dad earlier that day. Not Caleb, obviously. His pretend dad, who he’d previously said he hardly had a relationship with.
Gabby was surprised, and more surprised when she heard that Nicky’s fake father wanted to come to the wedding.
‘We’d have to move it forward,’ Nicky added. ‘He’s got prostate cancer. I don’t want to leave us getting married until it’s too late for him to be here.’
Gabby reassured him that it was fine and there was ‘no question’ that his dad should be at the wedding.
From her point of view it’s probably a good idea that the wedding will be sooner rather than later, as Nicky also persuaded her that they should abstain from having sex until after they were married. It would make the wedding night special, he insisted.
Gabby, who has enjoyed jumping on Nicky every time Thomas had a nap, was a bit put out but reluctantly agreed.
While Nicky permitted himself a small sigh of relief that he didn’t have to go through with this aspect of his duties any more, he did look a little bit guilty at all the lies he’s been forced to pile up on Gabby.
Can he stick to the plan or will his guilt make him slip up and put Caleb’s whole scheme in jeopardy?
