Dame Judi Dench blasted Louis Theroux during their discussion as part of his new BBC Two documentary offering. The legendary actor had a word with the cheeky film-maker on his Louis Theroux Interviews series when the pair discussed her childhood.
Louis chatted to Dame Judi about a fairly innocuous topic of animals before he landed himself in hot water with the James Bond star.
The actor said: “I’ve had a lot of pets, we had 17 cats during the war”.
Interrupting, Louis asked: “Which war?” and Judi retorted: “Well the Second World War. Louis – Out!”
Louis then stumbled on his words but mustered: “I didn’t mean the First World War, I didn’t mean it like that I was just confused.”

Judi asked: “B****y… am I the only person who heard that?”
The awkward interviewer then scrambled for an explanation and offered: “I thought you might mean the Vietnam War.”
She then calmed down from her light-hearted outburst to reply: “Oh, no – the Second World War.”
To conclude the funny interaction, Louis asked: “Did I recover?” and the pair laughed at the potentially awkward exchange and he was allowed to breathe a huge sigh of relief.
As is tradition with Louis’ documentaries, he was able to spend quality time in the home of his latest star.
The Oscar-winning actress spoke candidly about her career and went into great depth about her passion for acting on stage as well as her glittering big screen career too.
Louis also attempted to delve a little deeper into her personal life and tragedies she’s experienced too.
He asked about her late husband Michael, who was also an actor and whom she was married to for 30 years.
Judi broke down when she tried to open up on his death 22 years ago, “I’m not good at it actually.”
“Yes, he died in 2001 of lung cancer. Smoking you see, all that smoking when we were young.
“I was in New York and they said he was not well so my agent flew out and we came back on a Concord the next day and it aborted take off.
“We got off and got back on the next day and thought it would be all right and we got on another plane and the same thing happened.”
The Shakespeare In Love star continued: “So it took us a long time to get back, but we did get back and we were all in the house together and that was very good indeed.
“At least you are getting on and thinking of something else.”
In their in-depth interview, Louis asked what made them so close, “Michael used to laugh and when he laughed he used to cry.
“Interest in the same things is important of course but what is it? It’s impossible to tell.”
