Outlander’s Catriona Balfe discusses parenting during filming
Outlander’s Steven Cree confessed to not watching the hit Starz drama since his character was introduced in season one.
He stars as Ian Murray, Jamie Fraser’s (played by Sam Heughan) brother-in-law, who housed the Highlander and his wife Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) in Lallybroch.
Ian is also the father of Jamie’s adventurous nephew, Young Ian Murray (John Bell), who joined Jaime and Claire on a journey starting with stolen treasure in season three.
While Cree hasn’t reprised his role as Ian since season four, the actor revealed he has not seen an episode of Outlander since its early days because “you can suspend your belief.”
He made this admission during an interview with SheKnows’ Reshma Gopaldas as they discussed an ongoing mystery.

Cree shared: “I remember in season one, there’s a ghost standing outside, and that mystery that hasn’t been solved yet, has it or told.
After Reshma confirmed the storyline remains unsolved, he confessed: “I haven’t watched the series since season one because there’s no fun in watching things you’re in.”
The actor explained: “You can’t suspend your belief in the same way, you can’t get lost in it so I’m not sure if that story has been alluded to.”
Despite this, fans will be thankful as Cree confirmed his return to screens as Ian for the remainder of season seven.

As the show finished with Jamie, Claire and Young Ian’s return to Scotland after years in America, fans will see a huge change in the family.
Laura Donnelly who originally starred as Jamie’s sister Jenny, stepped down and announced her departure, leaving a space for newcomer Kristin Atherton.
During the interview, Cree also discussed what it was like filming with Atherton as Jenny instead of Donnelly.
He said: “To be honest, returning without Laura wasn’t that weird because I hadn’t filmed with Laura since season three that was in 2017, I can’t remember.”
After correcting himself and stating: “Actually, it was exactly five years ago, so in fact, season three would have been six years ago,” he spoke on his new co-star.
Cree added: “Kristin, who came in and played Jenny was so fantastic and my storylines [previously] in the show were mostly with Jamie and Claire. I never really had that much stuff with Jenny. It was fine.”
“It was really nice to go back again. It kinda felt like… it was weird, it didn’t feel like going to work.
“In a way, it felt like going and putting on a wig and some clothes with my mates and putting on a Scottish accent. I feel like we’re all putting on Scottish accents in it,” he concluded.
Outlander seasons 1-7 are available to stream on Starz in the US and on Lionsgate+ in the UK.
