Suranne Jones is officially back as Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva for another round of Vigil, with a stacked cast of new and returning co-stars. While the BBC drama prepares to take flight for season two, Outlander actress Lauren Lyle took a playful swipe at the series on Twitter when she realised she won’t be returning.
Lyle was disappointed to learn she won’t be reprising her role as Jade Antoniak in the second season of Vigil.
Below the cast announcement for season two, she asked: “Could Jade really have not come back from the dead? Whatever.”
In the first season, Jade was a peace activist and the girlfriend of Navy Officer and mapping expert Craig Burke (Martin Compston).
She was found forcibly drowned at the end of episode two, and Silva and her partner Kirsten Longacre (Rose Leslie) are tasked with tracking down the killer and solving the wider mystery at play.
Season two will begin a new investigation, so there’s sadly no chance of Lyle reprising her role in flashbacks.
Replying to Lyle, @Kirsten_tmbp said: “Love your Jade in season one, know where you’re coming from.”
And Helen Haydon suggested: “We need a flashback at least.”
However, Silva will be thousands of feet up in the air for Vigil’s next season as she and Longacre take on a completely new investigation.

Also returning from the first season is Gary Lewis as Detective Superintendent Colin Robertson, although the rest of the cast will be completely different.
Joining the original cast are nine new supporting stars, including Dougray Scott and Romola Garai.
Rounding out the second outing will be Amir El-Masry, David Elliot, Tommy Sim’aan, Oscar Salem, Jonathan Ajayi, Lyle’s Karen Pirie co-star Chris Jenks and newcomer Hiba Medina.
Shooting will begin later this spring and will take place in Scotland and Morocco.

A description via Deadline reads: “The leads will enter the closed and hostile environment of the Royal Air Force as they’re tasked with uncovering the cause of multiple unexplained fatalities at a Scottish military base.”
In a statement, executive producers Simon Heath and Jake Lushington said: “We’re excited to be taking the Silva & Longacre investigative partnership into a very different part of the British military, high in the skies rather than deep underwater.
“We’re also delighted to welcome to the cast two brilliant actors we’ve worked with on previous World shows, Romola Garai and Dougray Scott.”
Season two star Garai said it was “a huge privilege to be welcomed in as a part of Vigil Season 2 and to be playing such a layered, complex character.
“I can only hope to do justice to the show’s continued fascinating, challenging and thrilling storytelling.”
And Scott added: “I’m delighted to be joining the cast of Vigil series two – the first was so highly regarded and widely watched, and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with Tom Edge and Andy De Emmony.
“Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie are great talents and I’m excited to be working with them.”
Vigil is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. Outlander season 7 premieres Friday, June 16 on Starz in the USA and Lionsgate+ via Prime Video in the UK.
