Sam Heughan on the Fraser house being burned down in Outlander
Claire (played by Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) had only just said goodbye to their daughter Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) as she returned to the future with her husband and children to save newborn Mandy when they also suffered another loss.
Episode three of Outlander season seven sees the Frasers battle to put out the fire at the Big House.
They couldn’t save their home however, and Claire and Jamie were left to try and rescue as much as they could from what remained.
Reflecting on the loss, actor Sam said: “It is a sad moment and I think he’s lost again, something that is really dear to him.
“However, he doesn’t lose his kilts. Fortunately there is a casket still intact, so a little part of him still survives.”

Sam said of the plot twist: “Well, they didn’t die. They survived, thankfully. Unfortunately, the big house didn’t.”
Caitriona added of the scene: “You’ll see Sam and I do some amazing, you know, kind of Mission Impossible action.
“Leaping out of a burning building, which is fantastic.”
Sam continued: “The poor cast had to run up and down with buckets of water, and it was very amusing.
“Caitriona keeps her head down the whole time because she’s laughing.”

The Claire Fraser star admitted: “I don’t know if you know this about big costumes, heavy costumes, corsets, slippy, slippy mud and trying to run with a massive bucket in one hand.
“It’s not a run. It’s some kind of funny, penguin, duck move.
“And, I just found it very, very hard to keep a straight face.”
Caitriona went on to say the whole shoot was “quite spectacular” and there were plenty of fire engines to help control the blaze.
Executive producer Maril Davis said of the storyline: “I do feel like there was a bit of a sense of relief once the big house burned for the characters because it burned and they survived.”
However the drama didn’t end there as Jamie and Claire later decide to head back to Scotland with Young Ian (John Bell) to reunite with the Murrays.
It remains to be seen if they make it back home as the American Revolutionary War is now in full swing and Jamie is trying to avoid fighting against his son.
