Paddington Bear has paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following her death aged 96.
Buckingham Palace announced Her Majesty died on Thursday September 8 surrounded by the royal family at Balmoral castle.
Countless stars across movie, television, and sport have all paid respect to the ‘greatest’ monarch, but it was Paddington’s post which really hit people hard.
Sharing a heartfelt nod to his former co-star, Paddington simply tweeted: ‘Thank you Ma’am, for everything.’
Fans were incredibly moved by the post, with many being brought to tears.
‘Oh god, that’s the one that did it,’ replied one fan, while another echoed the same sentiment by posting: ‘I hadn’t cried until just now. I suspect I’m not alone.’
Paddington’s tweet follows the likes of Sir Elton John, Stephen Fry and Dame Helen Mirren who paid tribute to the queen while newsreaders such as Huw Edwards were praised for somehow holding it together while announcing the news.
John described the Queen as an ‘inspiring presence’ and said he would ‘miss her dearly’.
‘Along with the rest of the nation, I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s passing,’ he wrote.
Mirren, who received her Damehood in 2003, starred as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 film The Queen, and in the 2013 West End play The Audience described the late monarch as the ‘epitome of nobility’.
Sharing a photo of the Queen’s profile in her youth, Mirren wrote: ‘I’m mourning along with the rest of my country, the passing of a great Queen. I am proud to be an Elizabethan. We mourn a woman, who, with or without the crown, was the epitome of nobility.’
The actress, who received her Damehood in 2003, starred as Queen Elizbabeth II in the 2006 film The Queen, and in the 2013 West End play The Audience.
Huge crowds have gathered outside Buckingham Palace in the pouring rain, breaking into an impromptu rendition of God Save The Queen.
In a statement, King Charles III said: ‘he death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
‘We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished sovereign and a much-loved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.
‘During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.’
