Paul's mysterious mission in Corrie after upsetting wedding setback

Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) and Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) were given some upsetting news about their wedding plans in Coronation Street.

The couple are set to get married next week, but the ceremony will be held in the Bistro, not the church, because it is a gay wedding.

It is a frustrating and unfair rule the couple must stick by and tonight, Paul was given another reminder as to how strict the boundaries are.

During a chat with the Registrar, Paul put forward the idea of having O Happy Day as the exit music during the wedding.

Billy and the Registrar reminded Paul that because is it a hymn, it cannot be used.

Paul updated Bernie (Jane Hazlegrove), Todd (Gareth Pierce) and Summer (Harriet Bibby) later in the cafe and they were just as shocked. Bernie, being the iconic character she is, initially said she’d have a word with the Registrar and even considered praying, but Billy pointed out there was nothing that could be done.

As much as Billy tried to tell Paul that it didn’t matter they weren’t getting married in a church, he wasn’t exactly convinced.

When Billy was out of the flat, Paul invited Summer, Todd and Bernie over for a chat.

He hinted at needing their help but with the wedding tomorrow (aka, next Monday’s episode), will Paul’s mysterious mission impact how things play out on the big day?

‘I think he knows Billy very well now and Paul knows that Billy’s downplaying how upset he is about not being able to get married in a church’, Peter Ash told us.

‘Shelly’s death is something that brings out Paul’s faith. At the funeral he kind of has a spiritual moment. Wanting to get married in a church is a bit more of a priority now for Paul, but he wants to do it mainly for Billy.

‘He knows Billy has devoted his life to the church and he knows that’s where he wants to get married. So it’s a bit disappointing that they can’t, and there can’t be any religious music and all those rules that go around it. Billy’s downplaying it but Paul knows he really is a bit upset that they can’t have any of that at the wedding.’
