This Morning: Phillip Schofield handles rare royal coin
Presenter Phillip Schofield was revealing a special and very valuable Coronation item when he decided to ignore instructions not to touch a particular coin.
Pawnbroker Dan Hatfield joined Phillip and co-host Rochelle Humes to talk through some of the Coronation memorabilia displayed on the This Morning set.
One, a giant coin with both King Charles III and the late Queen Elizabeth II’s face emblazoned on one side each, was encased in a clear cover.
Dan and Rochelle became nervous as they stepped towards the 15kg gold coin made by The Royal Mint in celebration of the upcoming Coronation.
It is the largest coin produced by the company in its 1,100-year history, and it was clear the item was to be treated with caution.
“You have brought something that is very special, and you came with security guards,” Phillip explained as he approached Dan and the displayed coin.
“I did come with security guards, and they’re not my security guards,” Dan joked.
Rochelle, meanwhile, edged further away from the coin as she admitted: “I’m standing dangerously close to this, I’m the clumsiest person on earth so I’m just going to do this…”
The stand-in host backed further away from the massive coin.

“So before you take it off, explain what it is,” Phillip requested of Dan.
“OK, so I’m actually shaking from this,” Dan confessed. “Because as a pawnbroker, as a collector of coins, this coin is extremely special.”
Phillip walked right up to the coin and asked: “It’s not going to break, is it? It’s got the Queen on the back.”
To show audiences the other side, he swirled the box around to reveal the Queen’s image as Rochelle gasped and Dan backed away.
“Oh my god!” Rochelle stated as she flung her hands to her mouth.
“I don’t think you’re supposed to do that…” Dan warned nervously as he and Rochelle looked at something behind the cameras.
Phillip replied: “I know, but I just…” before Rochelle pointed at an unknown person behind-the-scenes and stated: “The man said don’t…”
“There you go,” an unphased Phillip remarked casually.
