Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden) is set to make a grim discovery in EastEnders, as he learns that Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) is selling the Arches. However, things only get worse when he learns who they are going to.
Phil tries to talk Ben out of his idea to sell the Arches to Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), but Ben is hellbent on going through with the deal, and there is nothing Phil can say or do to stop him.
Put out, Phil later confronts Sharon, intent on finding out what she would want with the Arches anyway.
Things go from bad to worse for Phil as she reveals that she has bought it to set up a business for fiance Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters).
When Sharon reveals to Keanu what she has done, he is left stunned.
Phil can’t help but stick his oar in, making snide comments and adding to Keanu’s already obvious discomfort.
After leaving for some fresh air, Keanu admits to Sharon that he doesn’t like the fact that she is the one supporting him, as he believes it should be the other way round.
‘He doesn’t really process the scale of what it is and, although it’s a great opportunity for him, Keanu feels quite emasculated by how Sharon has helped him and given him this opportunity’, actor Danny Walters revealed.
‘I think he’s battling his own demons here because his partner has provided financial help when he feels he should be doing that himself and provide as a father and a partner.’
Sharon brushes him off, demanding that he put his pride asides and grab the opportunity with open arms.
However, it soon becomes clear that Phil is determined to stir the pot, leaving Sharon concerned by Keanu’s ability to run a business.
Concerned, she confides in Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth), who offers her some much needed advice.
Kathy urges her to have faith in Keanu, leaving Sharon with a lot to think about.
When Sharon later hires Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) to look after the books so that Keanu can focus on fixing cars, Keanu is left agitated by her interference.
The couple continue to clash following Reiss’ employment, and things only get worse when Reiss and Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) invite themselves over for dinner, meaning that the warring couple are forced to play host.
Will they get past this hurdle, or will their new business venture drive Sharon and Keanu apart?
