Piers Morgan paid a stoic tribute to Queen Elizabeth II following the news of her death aged 96.
Her Majesty died peacefully at her Scottish home in Balmoral, ending a remarkable reign of more than 70 years.
Prince Charles is the new King and head of state of the United Kingdom and 15 commonwealth nations following the death of his mother.
At the beginning of his live special, the 57-year-old broadcaster began: ‘Well this is the saddest and most momentous turning points in the history of the United Kingdom.
‘There’s nobody in this country or the world that hasn’t lived the majority of their lives under the reigning of Queen Elizabeth II.
‘For over 70 years she served this country with astoundingly dedicated duty. I struggle to even imagine a Britain without her,’ he added.
The national anthem was played on the BBC after Buckingham Palace confirmed the sad news, while mourners outside the gates were in tears shortly after the announcement.
Earlier today, at 12.32pm, the Palace said that doctors were concerned for the monarch’s health, sparking widespread concerns across the country.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has died after 70 years on the throne, with her death announced by Buckingham Palace on 8 September 2022.
She died at the age of 96 years old surrounded by her family at her home in Balmoral, including her son and heir to the throne Charles, the Prince of Wales, and her grandsons, the Duke Of Cambridge, Prince William and the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry.

Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday afternoon that the Queen, 96, is being monitored at her home in Balmoral after doctors grew concerned for her health.
Born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in April 1926, the Queen was only 27 years old at the time of her coronation in 1953.
She worked with 15 prime ministers while carrying out overseas visits and royal duties at home – all while raising a family.
