The third season of Power Book II is set to hit fans screens later this month and along with it comes the return of Councillor Tate. It has been previously rumoured the slippery politician would get his own spin-off series but actor Tate didn’t reveal much when it came to addressing the rumours.

Tate, who plays Councilman Tate in the Power universe, spoke exclusively with Express.com ahead of his Power Book II season three return.

Following previous rumours regarding his character getting his own spin-off called  Power Book V: Influence.

It speculated the spin-off would have starred Tate as his character Rashad Tate as he climbed his way up the ranks of politics.

However when it came to shedding any light on the spin-off rumour, Tate remained tight lipped.

The actor explained: “You know, I wish I could, but we’ve been so focused on Power  Book II season three that our focus has been really on that.”

Despite Tate not revealing any new details about his own spin-off, he did hint at what fans could expect from his character in his co-star Michael Rainey Jr’s spin-off, Power Book II.

Tate revealed the creators are allowing him to do “really cool stuff” referring to his characters story line the the upcoming season.

He added: “Once again, it’s a little bit more likeability, a little bit more lovable stuff going on. Whether we want to see that or not you’re gonna get it you’re gonna get to see it. So we’ve been focused.”

Fans first met Tate’s character when he joined the cast of the original series of Power in 2014.

He appeared as a supporting character in season four of Power, then as a supporting antagonist in season five and one of the two tertiary antagonists in season six.

The wannabe politician proved he would do anything to gain power and influence, as he was known to do whatever he could to cause some more chaos for his fellow Power characters.

And as fans previously saw on the original show, it doesn’t matter who he ends up working with even if he could get him into some serious trouble.

Tate’s character was then introduced on Power Book II when the spin-off debuted in 2020 and has since then been a series regular.

When it comes to Tate’s spin-off, Starz’s president of programming, Kathryn Busby, confirmed to Variety last summer that the political Power spin-off would not “go forward” as of last year.

The move came after Busby took over as President of original programming at Starz. She described Power and fellow Starz hit Outlander as “shows that are both premium and commercial” to Variety.

News of the cancellation was surprising to fans, given the success of the previous three spin-offs, seeing Ghost being renewed for a third season and the second season of Raising Kanan.

Despite Tate’s spin-off hanging in the balance for now, fans can catch their favourite mischievous politician on season three of Power Book II.

Fans can also expect to see the return of Power Book II regulars like Michael Rainey Jr as Tariq, Mary J Blige as Monet, Shane Johnson as Cooper Saxe and many others.

The third season will return later this month on March 17.

Power Book II: Ghost is streaming on STARZ and Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
