Following the release of episode six, Starz’s hit crime drama Raising Kanan is fast approaching its finale and it looks like things are finally heating up. After the trailer revealed Famous (played by Antonio Ortiz) would get arrested, a major clue for the original series, Power suggests the teenager will die soon.
Raising Kanan is the second spin-off to come from the Power franchise, a gripping crime drama which first premiered in 2014.
The original show was where viewers first met adult Kanan Stark (50 Cent) who was a complex and deeply troubled criminal.
Following his release from prison, Kanan’s story quickly unfolded as it introduced his son Shawn Stark (Sinqua Walls) and his cousin Jukebox (Anika Noni Rose).
As all three of these characters met their deaths before the finale, the spin-off Raising Kanan, took fans back to New York in 1991, to gain insight into Kanan’s upbringing.
The show introduced Kanan (Mekai Curtis) as a 15-year-old high schooler who couldn’t stay away from trouble, despite his mother’s Raq Thomas (Patina Miller) demands.
As she was a feared and highly respected queen pin, Kanan chose instead to follow in her footsteps and alongside his best friends, Famous, they both delved into a life of crime.
During season two, Famous had already been kicked out of his home and as an aspiring rapper, he also sold drugs on the side with Kanan to make money.
Kanan had stolen the supply from his mother and wanted to do his own thing, however, as the trailer for episode seven hinted, things could soon take a dark turn.
In a shocking scene, Famous was arrested by police while a shocked Kanan managed to get away.
The next clip showed Kanan confessing to his uncle Marvin Thomas (London Brown) his friend was arrested and they took a bag of money.
Marvin responded: “Don’t look at me for no assist.”
However, as Famous isn’t as trained or knowledgeable on how to deal with the police, its likely the youngster to tell the cops everything out of fear of being thrown in jail.
As a result, Kanan could be forced to show loyalty to his family by killing Famous for being a snitch.
During the recent episode titled It’s a Business, Man, viewers learnt Famous’ real name was Shawn Figueroa.
This struck a chord with many fans who watched the original show Power, as Kanan’s son’s name was also Shawn.
This meant Kanan named his son after his childhood best friend, although this may seem like a touching tribute, fans will recall Kanan killed Shawn in season two.
Kanan had Shawn to kill James ‘Ghost’ St Patrick (Omari Hardwick), however, Ghost was able to overpower him and eventually let him go.
When Shawn told his father this, he added he was running away with Ghost’s wife Tasha St Patrick (Naturi Naughton) and the kids, as they were having an affair.
Kanan felt betrayed and shot his son in the stomach, disowned him and then shot another bullet in his head.
With Famous on the verge of betraying the entire Thomas family, it’s likely Kanan will be forced to kill his best friend.
Raising Kanan season 2 continues weekly on Starz and on Starzplay in the UK
