Real Housewives’ Nermina Pieters-Mekic, 33, diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer

Former The Real Housewives of Cheshire star Nermina Pieters-Mekic has announced in a heartfelt post on Instagram she has been diagnosed with an early stage aggressive breast cancer after finding a lump in her left breast.

The star, who shares two-year-old daughter Alaya-Rose with her West Bromwich Albion player husband Erik Pieters, also explained her fears in the wake of her diagnosis that she wouldn't see her daughter "grow up."

Speaking on her social media, alongside some pictures of her and husband Erik, including one of her wearing a cold cap which is sometimes used during treatment to prevent hair loss, Nermina said: "And just like that my life changed forever.

"A few months ago I felt a lump in my left breast and I decided to see a GP who didn’t seem overly concerned.

"After some convincing from my Mom- I decided to investigate it further as the lump was getting sore and growing. I’m so grateful that I did because on the 10th of July I got diagnosed with an early stage aggressive breastcancer."

The star, who joined the cast of The Real Housewives of Cheshire in 2017 as a guest housewife and has been on screen on-and-off since her debut, added: "I will never be able to describe how I felt that day and the days after that. My heart was broken, I was scared and I had so many questions.. I’m healthy and fit so how is this possible for someone of my age?!

"But one question scared me the most and it makes me upset even writing it down – “will I see my little princess grow up”?

"My days were filled with hospital appointments every day and there were so many decisions to be made. I had to make some of the hardest decisions in my life."

The star told her 76 thousand followers that there will be a lot of "healing" to do "emotionally and physically" as her body has been through and continues to go through a lot.

She said: "But I’m in very good hands and I’m positive and I am forever grateful for my husband, our families and my friends who have been with me the last weeks and who kept me going and made me feel so very loved. Whenever I look into my little girls eyes I know I have to be strong and that I will do anything and everything to get through this."

Explaining her motivations for going public with her diagnosis, Nermina added: "I didn’t know if and how to share this with the world but I do know that I want to bring awareness to young woman like me. Always listen to your gut feeling and for anyone going through this right now – I’m sending you love and strength."

Nermina became a mum to Alaya Rose in March 2021 and announced the news with OK! She has been married to footballer husband Erik since 2016 and is a singer, model and equestrian.
