Nicola McLean immediately shut down any speculation that Rebekah Vardy is broke after being confronted on Good Morning Britain.

Rebekah was left ‘devastated’ after the High Court ruled in Coleen Rooney’s favour in the Wagatha Christie libel claim she bought against her.

Former Celebrity Big Brother contestant Nicola was put on the spot by presenters Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley on Monday’s programme when they asked her whether Jamie Vardy’s wife is ‘cashing in’ following the trial.

Their question comes amid claims Rebekah is in talks for a tell-all documentary.

Kate asked plainly: ‘Do you think she’s broke? Is it really a question of money because it would be for any normal person, wouldn’t it? Is that her position?’

Clearly unimpressed by the line of questioning, Nicola responded: ‘Guys, come on, do you really think Rebekah Vardy, married to Jamie Vardy, is broke? She wouldn’t have gone to court if she was broke.’

Changing the phrase of her question, Kate tried again.

‘If she doesn’t need the money, there will be people that say after such a brutal bruising of going through all of this, why put yourself above the parapet to be seemed to be cashing in on it and therefore making money, why not want to retreat and lick wounds?’ she asked.

Nicola then responded by saying she hasn’t spoken to Rebekah about what she plans to do going forward.

The Wagatha Christie scandal erupted in October 2019, when Coleen said she had carried out a months-long ‘sting operation’ and accused Rebekah of leaking ‘false stories’ about her private life to the press.

Coleen publicly claimed Rebekah’s account was the source behind three stories in The Sun newspaper featuring fake details she had posted on her private Instagram stories.

Rebekah, who is married to Leicester striker Jamie Vardy, denied leaking stories to the media and sued her fellow footballer’s wife for libel, while Mrs Rooney defended the claim on the basis that her post was ‘substantially true’.

In a much-anticipated ruling on Friday, Mrs Justice Steyn found in Coleen’s favour and dismissed the claim against her.

Addressing the verdict, Rebekah said she was ‘extremely sad and disappointed at the decision that the judge has reached’.

‘It is not the result that I had expected, nor believe was just,’ she continued. ‘I brought this action to vindicate my reputation and am devastated by the judge’s finding.

‘The judge accepted that publication of Coleen’s post was not in the “public interest” and she also rejected her claim that I was the “Secret Wag”.

‘But as for the rest of her judgment, she got it wrong and this is something I cannot accept.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
