Emmerdale viewers recently saw Tom King (James Chase) returning to the village to reconnect with his former love, Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper).
Tom is the son of Carl King (Tom Lister) who died in 2012. After his father’s death he headed for Saudi Arabia to ‘figure things out,’ in the words of actor James Chase who told us that the main reason Tom returns is Belle.
‘They were childhood sweethearts and they loved each other,’ he said. ‘Even though there was a lot of drama going on in his life at that time, she was a real shining star for him, the one good thing he could remember that gave him hope and love.
‘He’s come back to Leeds to work as a vet there, it just so happened that’s where he was transferred to, and then he realised “I’m much closer to the village, now could be the time to get closure and perhaps to see her again.”
‘I think partly he just wanted to see her again just to make sure she was all right and happy and I think that was the main reason he came back.’

Upcoming episodes see Tom’s skills as a vet put to the test when he operates on Zak Dingle (Steve Halliwell)’s beloved dog Monty.
Rhona (Zoe Henry) is furious when she discovers this, so it seems that Tom has taken it upon himself to treat the dog without her knowledge.
This action could destroy any hopes he has of making a permanent move to the village, but luckily for him Rhona soon has a change of heart and offers him a job.
With Tom finding a secure job locally, he realises he’s going to have to start building bridges with people he hasn’t had contact with in a long time, like his uncle Jimmy (Nick Miles).
According to James Chase, the plan is ‘the rekindling of his family, Jimmy and Nicola (Nicola Wheeler).
‘The possibility of him maybe finding closure and being able to live in the village once again without all that darkness clouding him, because he’s a new man now.’
Will he be welcomed with open arms by his family?
And how will Chas (Lucy Pargeter) react to having her former stalker back in the village?
