Ever since Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) was scarred for life in an acid attack aimed at her in Coronation Street, Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) has felt responsible for him. She knew that if he hadn’t got between her and evil stalker Justin (Andrew Still) she would have been hit by the acid and been the one facing the pain and multiple surgeries that Ryan has had to undergo.
When Ryan was at his lowest ebb the thought of Crystal (Erin Austen), the girl he’d met shortly before the attack who he was planning a future with in Ibiza, kept him going. So when Crystal told Daisy she couldn’t cope with what had happened to Ryan, Daisy knew he’d be devastated.
Trying to let him down gently she texted him pretending to be Crystal, but what was meant as a short-term fix has turned into a more long-term exchange as Ryan has been texting the woman he believes to be Crystal and Daisy has continued to reply.
Both Charlotte Jordan and Ryan Prescott told us recently that this is going to lead to a very intense and complex situation for their characters.
‘It’s going to be a really confusing time for Daisy,’ Charlotte said. ‘She’s brushed her own recovery under the rug and is really focusing on Ryan. She feels responsible for him so her feelings are going to get really messy and she’s going to get confused. It’s going to get quite chaotic. Then the story may morph into a “can you love two people at once?” storyline.’
‘It does get very complicated,’ Ryan added. ‘There’s this thing that happens when you endure extreme trauma with someone, it kind of bonds you together. When you have been through hell with someone, there’s this unspoken bond. So there is potential between Ryan and Daisy for sparks to happen and things to occur. Obviously she’s with Daniel (Rob Mallard) and that’s why there’s so much complication, but there is potential in the future for complications there, 100%.’
In episodes to be aired soon these complications are already starting to play out as Daniel – who knows that Daisy has been texting as Crystal – tells her she needs to tell Ryan the truth.
Daisy goes to visit Ryan but she’s confounded when he stubbornly insists he doesn’t need her pitying him because he has true friends like Crystal, who he says genuinely cares about him. Daisy leaves, unable to tell him the truth.
Ryan reveals just how much he’s come to depend on ‘Crystal’ the following day when he gets a text he thinks is from her. He admits to Carla (Alison King) that he really likes Crystal and he hopes she feels the same about him.
It’s inevitable that Ryan is going to find out about Daisy’s deception sooner or later – but how heartbroken is he going to be when he realises that the relationship he thought he was building with Crystal has actually been with Daisy?
