Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) has lost just about everything after robbing the bistro in Coronation Street.
The naïve character genuinely thought he’d be able to get away with the theft, perhaps because he’s been so desperate to leave the cobbles and return to his career as a DJ in Ibiza.
He was subsequently arrested and tonight, he faced his hearing.
After a chat with Debbie (Sue Devaney), Ryan changed his statement and told the police he was coerced into committing the crime and mentioned Ray Crosby (Mark Frost), hoping the judge would go easier on him.
As he took to the stand, Ryan had Ronnie (Vinta Morgan) watching on, who’s been like a father to him recently.
Ryan grew up and told the judge he was guilty of the theft and prepared to find out how long he’d be behind bars for.
Luck was on Ryan’s side somewhat, as he returned home tasked with community service for his punishment.
Over a beer with Ronnie, Ryan was upset.
Ryan had lost his home, friends, his family are living elsewhere, he really was at rock bottom.
Later on, as Ryan attempted to lift his spirits on the slot machine, Debbie arrived and told him by way of thanks, he’s been promoted to the role of Head Waiter at the bistro.
Ryan accepted the promotion and then, to his shock, the machine paid out a handful of pound coins.
He smiled – a sign that maybe, just maybe, things will soon start getting a little easier.
