Lorraine Stanley has addressed EastEnders’ decision to axe Karen Taylor, revealing that she’s feeling rather ‘sad’ about it all.
The actress, who has played Karen for six years on the BBC One soap, revealed that she experienced a ‘mix of emotions’ after learning that her character would be written out of the show.
‘I was sad, it was a mix of emotions, it’s sad but it’s exciting as now I can go and do what I want,’ she said, breaking her silence.
‘You can get a bit relaxed there and a bit comfortable. So I want to be out of my comfort zone.
Lorraine went on to say that she has yet to find out about how Karen will leave the Square, but reiterated that she hopes the door will be left open for her to one day return.
‘I hope the door will be left open for Karen,’ the soap star told The Sun. ‘I can’t say too much but if they kill me then I would never watch EastEnders again.’
Karen’s exit was confirmed earlier this year, with Metro.co.uk understanding that it was EastEnders’ decision to write the character out, with her final scenes set to air later this year.
Lorraine previously took to social media to share her sadness over the decision, paying tribute to all of those who played a key role in her time on the BBC One soap.
‘Thank you to [writer] Daran Little for creating the Taylors and to the BBC for giving me the opportunity to play such a fabulous character,’ she said.

‘I’ll be sad to be saying goodbye to Karen Taylor and will miss all the cast and crew at EastEnders.
‘However I’m looking forward to my next chapter and excited about being a jobbing Actor again & starting new ventures.’
