BBC Breakfast: Carol ‘jokes’ the weather won’t be nice for Jon’s time off
BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent revealed why her regular co-host Jon Kay wasn’t sitting alongside her on Monday morning.
Turning to stand-in Ben Thompson, she commented: “I have to say, it is lovely to have you with us this morning. Thank you for coming to keep me company.”
He replied: “You’re very welcome, it’s lovely to be here.”
As the duo were introducing weather presenter, Carol Kirkwood, they highlighted Jon’s absence.
Ben said: “The most important thing, Jon will want to know what the weather is going to be like for his bit of time off.

“Carol has got all the details, Carol good morning, is it going to rain for Jon’s little break?”
Laughing, the 61-year-old confessed it wasn’t going to be the nicest time for his time away from the show as she commented: “Poor Jon.”
Later on in the show, the duo were speaking about the moment an umpire at Wimbledon asked spectators not to open a bottle of champagne during the match.
As Sally and Ben laughed at the quip, the BBC host told viewers to enjoy their time if they were going to watch the sporting event today.

Sally commented: “You know I think that might of been our Jon Kay, who has just started his holidays. So if that was Jon, behave.”
On Sunday afternoon, Jon took to social media to inform his viewers he wouldn’t be on BBC Breakfast for two weeks as he takes pre-planned holiday.
In a post, he wrote: “Enjoying some extra sleep and long-planned annual leave with the family. So no need to set my alarm clock tomorrow.
“Back on the red sofa with my BBC Breakfast family in Salford in two weeks’ time.”
Many took to the comments to share their good wishes to the broadcaster as they told the 53-year-old to enjoy the break.
Barbararathmill commented: “Enjoy your well-earned break, quality family time, with julie.malin1 adding: “Enjoy your leave.”
Dawnldn said: “Miss you already on the red sofa. Enjoy your break.”
