In upcoming EastEnders scenes, Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) is set to discover an upsetting secret about partner Reiss Colwell (Jonny Freeman) that will see her life come ‘crashing down’.
Sonia is enjoying her birthday party when she overhears a heated conversation between Reiss and Rocky Cotton (Brian Conley).
Rocky, who has previously overheard Reiss making a suspicious phone call, demands to know the truth, unaware that Sonia is listening in.
Actress Natalie Cassidy revealed that the news shocks Sonia to her core.
‘It just happens so quickly and he just says it how it is and she thinks ‘oh my god’. I think it just hits her in the face like a tonne of bricks.
‘When the news breaks and Reiss reveals his secret, I think she’s utterly heartbroken and it’s quite a difficult time for her.’
Feeling hurt and betrayed, Sonia orders Reiss out of her life, which Natalie reveals is a split second decision.
‘When she orders him out of her life, it’s more about that moment and feeling humiliated – it’s her birthday and they were due to perform on stage in front of everybody in the Square – so everything quickly comes crashing down.’
Following a night spent in his car, Reiss is desperate to explain himself, but Sonia remains firm in her decision.
After receiving all sorts of advice from different family members and friends, it is Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) who finally manages to put things into perspective.
‘Sonia goes away and takes some time to process everything going on with Reiss, and has a chat with Lola.
‘I think Lola is the one, being in her heartbreaking position, that says Sonia can’t worry about what other people think and encourages Sonia to do what she wants to do.
‘I think Lola plays quite a big part in Sonia’s decision because she puts life into perspective.’
As Lola’s words sink in, will Sonia give Reiss a second chance?
