Al Haskey (Ian Midlane) has never been a man afraid to speak his mind in Doctors. This tendency gets him into trouble this week as he runs headlong into a row about the rights and wrongs of vaccinations.
It begins when Al bumps into Dawn Richeson (Kate Sobey) who is bringing baby Noah in to be vaccinated. Al knows her husband Simon (Christopher Harper) is very opposed to the very idea of vaccination (he and Al have clashed over the issue) and so suggests that she tell Simon what is going on.
She thinks it better not to but thanks Al for his help. Al assures Bear (Dex Lee) that everything is fine. Privately, he is less sure.
The next day, Simon brings in Noah as he is concerned that the baby has a strange mark on his leg. Al’s heart sinks as he recognises the mark is a result of Noah reacting to being vaccinated. Simon flies into a rage.
He is furious with Dawn for deceiving him and with Al for influencing her. He storms into Bear’s office and complains about Al directly to Daniel and Zara (Matthew Chambers and Elisabeth Dermot Walsh).
Al launches into a passionate defence of his actions in front of Bear, Daniel and Zara. They are not impressed and Al is forced to write a written apology for his rudeness.
Later, Al gets into even more trouble when it emerges that Dawn has left Simon and that Simon has made a formal complaint about him to NHS England. In short, it is a bad week for Al.
