Faith Dingle’s (Sally Dexter) health has been deteriorating rapidly in Emmerdale and it’s about to take a turn for the worse as confusion causes her to turn on her son.
As even Faith fears she won’t make it to Christmas, she’s desperate to spend time with her grandchildren and the ban her family have imposed on her won’t stop her. Getting creative, she presents her grandkids with a new pet Chameleon, which leaves Kyle (Huey Quinn) and Sarah (Katie Hill) a bit disturbed as to why and where it came from. They are right to question things Faith has nobbled the poor creature from the vets. Dingle Hijinx ensues when the reptile makes a break for it and ends up in the bar where Al (Michael Wildman) is trying to have a quiet drink. Not much fazes Al, but an unexpected lizard will do it.
This of course lays Faith’s unorthodox plan bare, and Cain (Jeff Hordley) and Chas (Lucy Pargeter) are not impressed. She tries pulling on their heartstrings by begging them to give her time with her grandchildren before she dies, but despite her show of emotions, they remain resolute – she is not to look after the kids alone.
This is too confronting for Faith who is now realising how little control she has over whatever time she has left. She makes a big decision – she wants Cain to have lasting power of attorney as she decides to have a DNR put in place. Chas is taken aback that her mum is choosing to die, but it’s a harsh reality she has to face.
Wheels are set in motion for Cain to take over her estate, but the sight of Cain going through the forms of her final wishes triggers something in Faith. As the distress rises, it causes her to become overwhelmingly confused, and her addled mind hallucinates that Cain is Shadrach.
Fearing for her life at the hands of her dreadful ex-husband – who is really Cain – she grabs a frying pan and goes on the attack. How badly is she about to hurt her own son?
