Strictly star Karen Heaur details tough part of working away from home

Karen Heaur explained why it can be so tough working away from home – and opened up on the importance of being around her furry friends.

The pro dancer is best known for her impressive dancefloor moves, but outside of Strictly Come Dancing her main passion is her four rescue dogs.

Karen is working with Petplan and, speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she revealed why it can be tough to be away from home.

Talking about her beloved dogs, she explained: “Every time I have time off, I just spend it at home and we take them for walks and I’ve moved up north now to make sure the dogs have more space.

“And you know, it’s a different quality of life as well and I think it’s lovely to be able to spend that time with family and that includes dogs.”

The 41-year-old continued: “And we go away with them, we even got a bigger truck to be able to get the dogs in the back you know with their crates and again, everything is almost surrounded by the dogs and how much happiness they bring to us.”

“And when I am away it is tough, very tough.

“But I know that they’re always being taken care of and that’s always my priority, that they’re happy.

“Because they make me happy. They make everyone happy. I mean, I was just reading all the statistics and they have like seven out of 10 Brits say that their pets can sense when they need emotional support, or like to have parents want their pets by their side post-breakup.

According to Petplan, new research has highlighted just how reliant Brits are on the emotional support of their pets, with almost three-quarters (71 percent) saying they’ve been helped through the toughest times of their lives by their companions.

The research comes as Petplan announces the launch of its annual Petplan’s Pet Awards to celebrate the nation’s most heroic, entertaining, and loving pets.
