Fleur East landed in the bottom two during last week’s Strictly Come Dancing and had to face the dance-off against Richie Anderson. However, three out of the four judges decided to save Fleur and Vito Coppola following their Little Mermaid-themed performance. This meant TV presenter Richie and his dance partner Giovanni Pernice were sent home.
However, the X Factor star could be at risk of landing in the bottom two again this weekend, after dance professor Dr Jill Jacobs analysed her performance.
On behalf of Heart Bingo, Dr Jill believes the right person was eliminated last weekend, although she feels both Richie and Fleur’s costumes put them at risk.
She began: “Though I do feel it was the right decision to eventually eliminate Richie Anderson for a variety of reasons.
There was very little content in the original routine; technically, the steps were ‘stilted’ because Ritchie’s centre of gravity was too high. “Ritchie’s statue contributes to a lightness on his feet, which doesn’t benefit his dancing.
“An active bend in the knee would have given Ritchie a more flowing quality.
“More importantly, Ritchie’s dance-off performance did not show improvement in his technique, whereas Fleur’s performance did.”
Speaking about how Fleur’s costume put her at risk, Dr Jill continued: “Costumes can adversely affect a dancer’s performance, either directly through impeding movement or by cutting performers’ confidence.
“I felt that Fleur also had a difficult costume to work with which may have placed her at risk of elimination.
“I believe that the waves of pleating at Fleur’s hips and the weighted fabric that covered lines may have over-exaggerated her physique and actions.
It made Fleur look as if she had committed a faux pas by not clenching her derriere to stabilize her torso coming in and out of the lift with Vito.”
Turning her attention to who could be eliminated this weekend, Dr Jill believes it could be Tony Adams or Matt Goss.
“As a former professional dancer and dance instructor, I mutter ‘uh-oh’ when I can see that someone cannot seem to hear the music (counts, beats, phrasing),” she said.

“This describes only one person in the competition – Tony Adams.
“The real question with Tony is ‘how versatile is Tony in adapting to the dance styles to hide his lack of musicality?’.
“There were many celebrity contestants who were able to dance the choreography fairly well but whose performances were not memorable become they were unable to bring meaning to the dance, tell a story, in moving with their partner.
“This is where we can see some celebrities falling back on their acting skills and/or charm.
Dr Jill added: “I suspect Matt Goss may be next up the next for elimination.
“Although it is hard to predict as there are others at risk of sliding into a dance-off at this stage.
“The spotlight should be on strength, energy, line, expression, embodiment and meaning – all important elements of the performing art of dance.
Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday at 6.30pm on BBC One.
