Strictly’s Shirley Ballas snaps at ‘booing’ audience as fans slam Nigel remarks

Shirley Ballas ‘snaps’ back at Strictly audience

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas snapped back at the studio audience on Saturday after they started booing over her feedback.

The head judge was giving her critique about Nigel Harman and Katya Jones’ energetic performance, and she didn’t seem as impressed as she was last week.

Tes Daly asked Shirley what she thought about the routine to which she replied: “Graceful arms and a lovely connection together, I really like that.

“But the basic foot action in this dance is much flatter than all the other dances and they actually say, fly flat when it comes to the Viennese Waltz.”

She said there were “too many technical errors” adding: “You do your reverse, you’re not crossing…”

The audience began to boo and Shirley instantly shut them down, telling them: “You might learn something, so hold on a minute.”

Fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, in droves to slam Shirley’s “patronising” comments about Nigel’s performance.

@camy93_ fumed: “Shirley is so rude to the audience.”

@WriterofQueen echoed: “Yikes twas a bit patronising Shirley (Also get her Craig and Motsi!!.” (sic)

While @Zoetjetoch added: “If even Craig thinks that Shirley is being picky! #Strictly.”

“Shirley sprouting all that negativity and snapping at the audience, only to give a decent score of a six? what’s she on? #strictly,” @quandromache asked.

@darrenjl repeated Shirley’s comments, by tweeting: “WELL YOU MIGHT LEARN SOMETHING SO HOLD ON A MINUTE. #strictly.”

On Sunday night, the celebrities who received the least amount of votes will have to perform in the dreaded dance-off.

It will then be up to the judges to decide which contestant will stay and go.

The bookmakers have also been coming up with their own theories about who will be eliminated first, and it doesn’t look good for Nikita Kanda.

Nikita, who is paired with Gorka Marquez, is currently the favourite to be given the boot first.

On the other end of the scale, Bobby Brazier is currently the show’s frontrunner, with Nigel Harman hot on his toes with odds of 7/2.

Sam Boswell, a spokesperson of BetVictor, said about the latest odds: “In the elimination market, the favourite star to be voted out this weekend is Nikita Kanda at 11/8.

“Partnered with Gorka, they are dancing the Charleston to Single Ladies by Beyonce.

“Close behind Nikita, Les Dennis has odds of 15/8 to be eliminated first. Dancing the Samba to Rock the Boat by Hues Corporation, can he steady the ship to safety?”

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
