It’s finally been confirmed who really killed Charlie Walter in Coronation Street – Stu Carpenter’s (Bill Fellows) daughter, Bridget (Beth Vyse).
Ultimately, guilt was the reason why Bridget revealed the truth after all these years, as she couldn’t cope with Stu building a loving relationship with young Eliza, knowing reconnecting would essentially be built on lies.
During brunch, Eliza, once again, was curious to know more about Stu’s time behind bars.
Stu told his granddaughter that he was more focused on what was happening the other side of prison and the fact he missed Bridget growing up and Eliza being born because he was inside for a crime he did not commit.
Overwhelmed, Bridget headed outside and shortly after, Stu joined her.
Tears in her eyes, Bridget confirmed that she killed Charlie and Lucy (Lynda Rooke), Stu’s ex, helped cover the death up.
A horrified Stu listened in as Bridget explained what happened when she was a teenager, revealing she attacked Charlie after discovering the affair, unable to understand why her dad thought the waitress was better than her and her mum.
Bridget went on to reveal that after she killed Charlie, Lucy arrived to help, and they buried her body in a shallow grave in the woods.
Later that day, Lucy tried to explain why she made the decision, but Stu was so completely stunned, he told Lucy that if he knew the truth, he would’ve protected Bridget and done even more time behind bars if it meant she was safe.
Sadly though, life did not play out that way.
Stu told Yasmeen (Shelley King) that he thought a stranger killed Charlie and really wasn’t sure what would happen next.
But is it finally all over?
