Brian Cox on being 'hangry' on set of Succession
Brian Cox has starred as brash billionaire Logan Roy in HBO’s critically acclaimed drama Succession since the show debuted in 2018. Co-star Kieran Culkin will be well aware of his on-screen father’s fiery temper, but it appears their relationship isn’t much different off-screen, as the Roman Roy actor claimed Cox gets “hangry” onset.
Succession star Brian Cox sat down with Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond on This Morning earlier this week as he promoted the show’s fourth and final season.
After teasing what fans can expect from the current series, Cox began to praise his fellow Succession co-star Kieren Culkin.
Host Alison revealed: ”He says you get very hangry on set.” Cox replied: “Who? I get hangry.”
To clarify, Hammond explained: “Apparently you get very hangry, that’s hungry and angry at the same time.”
Whilst the actor didn’t deny Culktins accusations, he did defend his “hangry” outbursts, blaming it on his ongoing health struggles.
Cox admitted: “Well, yeah I do get hangry because I’m diabetic”, as he went on to detail the symptoms of his condition.
The actor went on to say “So my-” before Alison finished his sentence by saying “you need your food?”

Agreeing with Hammond, Cox said: “So yeah, I need my food.”
“And then I don’t like my food, so I have a very complicated relationship with food” Cox explained as Hammond and O’Leary could be heard laughing in the background.
Cox then began detailing the other elements of his condition, explaining: “And I have started taking injections recently, so I do get hangry, yes I do.”
Hammond jumped to the actor’s defence, saying: “Oh well, you deserve to be hangry especially when you’re diabetic” as O’Leary agreed: “Absolutely!”
Although the actor admitted to having emotional outbursts when he hadn’t got his food fix on the set of the drama, he insists he showed no emotion when it came down to it being the series’ final season.
When Alison asked if there “had been any tears amongst the cast” Cox began to roll his eyes as he said: “Yeah, apparently they’ve all been crying!”
“I really don’t understand it, you know?” he continued.
Hammond then clarified: “But you’re not crying over a series coming to an end?”

To which the Scottish actor then stood his ground, as he exclaimed: “I will not cry over it, you know, I’ve got a lot of work on, so I’m very busy.”
Despite claiming how many other TV shows “pass their sell-by date”, Cox was adamant that “this won’t happen to our show [Succssion], “thanks to the integrity of Jesse Armstrong”.
All seasons of Succession are available to stream on HBO in the US or on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
