Susanna Reid says Piers Morgan made her ‘more difficult’ as she hits TV milestone

Susanna Reid thanked Piers Morgan for making her “more difficult” during their time presenting Good Morning Britain together.

Susanna, who recently branded Hugh Grant “grumpy” as she recalled a previous interview, is celebrating 20 years on breakfast TV this week and is reflecting on some of the highs of her career.

Sitting alongside co-presenter Ed Balls on the show on Wednesday morning, Susanna thanked Piers and her former BBC Breakfast colleague, the late Bill Turnbull, who she worked with from 2001 to 2014.

She gushed: "I started with Bill Turnbull, and it is really a shame not to be able to celebrate with Bill. I'd love to be able to text him this morning and talk to him about that.

“He was absolutely brilliant, but luckily I am surrounded by other brilliant people and so thank you very much for being with me on the journey."

She also thanked Ben Shephard and Charlotte Hawkins for their work on the show.

"Obviously, a massive thanks to Ben, who is not here this morning but we started Good Morning Britain together along with you Charlotte of course and Sean as well," she said.

Piers famously walked off the show in 2021 in a temper tantrum after Alex Beresford challenged his position on Meghan Markle.

He worked with Susanna for five years, with their show running during the mornings from Monday to Wednesday.

Susanna continued: "And just a huge thank you to Piers Morgan of this parish, five years alongside him. He made me bolder, more argumentative, more difficult I think, more probing, asking the tricky questions and going into battle every morning.

“Slightly different since then but definitely a big thank you to everyone I've presented with over 20 years. Getting up at 3.45 and I'm still here."

Earlier this month, after Gary Lineker spurred a Match of the Day boycott over his tweets about the government’s refugee plans, Piers, 57, tweeted: “Would have been nice to see the same solidarity.”

Speaking exclusively to OK!, a source said that Piers felt “let down” by Susanna after he chose to leave the show.

“Piers’ tweet was a cheeky dig at Susanna,” our source claimed. “He feels not just the TV executives should have been more supportive, but his co-hosts – including Susanna – should have been, too. No one came out and backed him, only his family, no one he worked side by side with. He felt let down.”

“Piers and Susanna are cordial and civil when they see each other, but they’re not as close as they once were. Piers does miss the show and their partnership, but he’s gone on to different things with his TalkTV show Piers Morgan Uncensored and isn’t looking back,” they added.

“He loves his new show. And Susanna enjoys being the main anchor on GMB, sitting alongside presenters like Ed Balls.”
