Ted Lasso: Annette Badland says no season 4 – but hints at a movie
The third season of Ted Lasso continues to tread a fine line between comedy and drama as Jason Sudeikis’ plucky coach discovers he still has some personal trauma to work through. However, it wasn’t just the latest twists and turns which had fans checking their emotions, as the Apple TV+ series concluded with a touching tribute to one of America’s most popular soccer pundits.
Fans were left emotional this week when the fourth episode of Ted Lasso’s third season concluded with a dedication to the late Grant Wahl.
The American sports journalist died at the age of just 49 from a ruptured aortic aneurysm on December 10 last year whilst covering the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Wahl was praised for his support of the LGBTQ+ community during the event, which is also becoming a key theme for the third and possibly final season of the Apple hit.
@meehhhh_ tweeted: “It was nice to see the new episode of Ted Lasso was dedicated to Grant Wahl. Still so tragic, gone too soon.”
@j_smarty_ said: “I don’t know if the ‘in memory of Grant Wahl’ has been in the other episodes of Ted Lasso, but its inclusion at the end of this episode has me tearing up.”
“This week’s Ted Lasso was dedicated to Grant Wahl and honestly that made it even better,” @toysbeforeboys wrote.
“Not sure what to think about this week’s Ted Lasso, especially considering last week’s,” @thatbobertguy said.
“But I felt slapped by the ‘In memory of Grant Wahl’ in the credits. Grant, you are missed.”
Lauren Fowler said: “The tribute to Grant Wahl at the end of this week’s Ted Lasso brought all the tears.”
And Lia Picard added: “Tonight’s Ted Lasso already bummed me out and then I saw that it was dedicated to Grant Wahl [sad face emoji].”
Wahl was best known for his stint as a soccer analyst for CBS Sports since 2021 following almost 10 years with Fox Sports.
He was also a senior writer for Sports Illustrated and was the author of the bestselling book The Beckham Experiment.

During his coverage of the World Cup in Qatar, he was detained for wearing a rainbow-patterned T-shirt amid the crackdown on items which supported the LGBTQ+ community.
His last entry for The New York Times before his death also criticised Qatari leaders for the deaths of migrant workers during the construction of new World Cup stadiums.
Meanwhile, this week’s episode of Ted Lasso proved just as emotional as Ted is still struggling to reconnect with defected coach Nate Shelley (played by Nick Mohammed).
Footage of Richmond’s former kit man trying to tear up the team’s iconic ‘Believe’ sign may have got some laughs, but it also highlighted just how lost he might be.
Also, tensions are still running high between AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and her ex-husband Rupert Mannion (Anthony Head).
Finally, Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) is still conflicted after hiring her friend Shandy Fine (Ambreen Razia), and Trent Crimm (James Lance) has a tough decision to make regarding one of the players.
Ted Lasso season 3 continues Wednesdays on Apple TV+.
