The Chase’s Anne Hegerty details horrible I’m A Celebrity experience

The Chase: Anne Hegarty recalls her I'm a Celeb experience

The Chase’s Anne Hegerty, who is known as The Governess on the hit ITV show, opened up about her time on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here after a question about cockroaches came up on the show.

Host Bradley Walsh had asked a question about a film in which Oscar winner Nicolas Cage ate a live cockroach.

After the answer was revealed as Vampire’s Kiss, Anne recalled: “I’ve had cockroaches all over me. That is not an experience I wish to repeat.”

It appeared that Bradley had forgotten she was a contestant on I’m A Celebrity back in 2018 and it took a second to dawn on him. He then enquired about the infamous eating tasks on the show.

“I didn’t [eat] anything especially [unpleasant],” she said.  – I ate a Witchetty grub and I drank a glass of blended fish eyes. That was all,” she said casually as if she was discussing drinking a milkshake.

“But they tend to use the cockroaches to sort of drop all over you. This is less fun than it sounds, and it doesn’t sound like fun,” she said in her trademark terse tones.

In November last year, Anne told Express.co.uk that she took part in the ITV reality series because: “They also mentioned ridiculous amounts of money and they made it sound easier than it actually turned out to be.

“So, yeah, I wouldn’t do I’m A Celeb again but I’m glad to have done it. I’m glad to have it under my belt,” she said.

“It did result in an increase in exposure and an increase in opportunities,” she admitted.

“But the most important thing about I’m A Celeb is that I met these brilliant people that I’m still friends with and still in touch with, which is the point. Plus the enormous amount of money, that’s nice.”

Anne came seventh in the show after sharing the camp with the likes of The Inbetweeners star Emily Atack, Doctor Who actor John Barrowman, TV presenter Noel Edmonds, and X Factor singer Fleur East.

Former football manager Harry Redknapp was ultimately crowned the King of the Jungle after winning over the nation’s hearts.

The Chase is on ITV on weekdays at 5pm.
