After a series of misfortune, Dr Aaron Glassman’s (played by Robert Schiff) storyline could take a heartbreaking turn after the renowned surgeon made a major mistake. With the likelihood his cancer has returned, The Good Doctor fans took to social media with angst ahead of the ABC drama’s next episode.
During Monday’s episode, Dr Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore) faced the harsh reality of his mentor and father figure’s health declining.
Despite being a world-class neurosurgeon, Jared Kalu (Chuku Modu) revealed Glassman had closed their patient’s brain surgery with eight sutures instead of 10.
As a result, the patient suffered a small post-op bleed, but this rookie error was out of character for Glassman, who was highly respected among his peers.
After ABC released an emotional promo for episode 18, viewers suspected the return of Glassman’s cancer could lead to his heartbreaking death.
Taking to Twitter, @morbeen4444 feared: “I don’t know what would happen if Shaun were to lose Dr Glassman.”
A second viewer @FebWriter tweeted: “I hope Glassman’s brain cancer isn’t back!”
@KLBSt8ofSk8 added: “Yikes, so the suture thing with Glassman translates to concern about his cancer returning?”
A shocked @StephonJS87 shared: “Glassman did what? That can’t be good. Shaun looks worried.”
After watching the promo clip for episode 18, @SheaSquad_ wrote: “O m g the promo of next episode!!! Glassman.” (sic)
While @ArchLinHamada14 added: “Next episode: Teary episode for Shaun and Dr Glassman.”
During the trailer, Shaun confronted Glassman and warned him: “Your brain cancer may have returned.”
When Glassman responded by saying he was “fine”, an irritated Shaun hit back: “The evidence is very compelling.”
To which the neurosurgeon insisted: “No, it’s really not.”
What followed was an emotional realisation as Shaun’s wife Lea Diallo (Paige Spara) suggested: “Maybe he’s scared and I think you’re scared too.
“You’re worried about family and Glassman is a part of that.”
The teaser then continued with flashback clips of Shaun and Glassman working alongside each other and bonding.
Speaking to Glassman, a teary-eyed Shaun admitted: “It would be hard to lose my father, just as I am about to become one.”
Viewers will undoubtedly be in for an emotional episode as the specialists work to find out if Glassman’s cancer has definitely made a comeback.
This will be the latest in a long list of misfortunes for Glassman who is currently living with Shaun and Lea after his home went up in flames.
The doctor has also been there to support the young couple as they prepare to welcome their newborn child.
The Good Doctor continues Mondays on ABC in the USA.
