Jenny Connor (Sally Ann Matthews) was left devastated recently when she thought that the Rovers would be forced to shut down for good, though tonight’s (August 11) episode of Coronation Street saw her knight in shining armour step forward and save the day.
With the cost of living crisis having hit the Rovers hard, Jenny and her employees pulled out all the stops in an attempt to save the beloved boozer, though nothing they did was enough to bring it back from the brink.
Jenny’s only option was to sell up, though brewery Newton and Ridley turned down the offer after Henry Newton (George Banks) had a look through the accounts.
However, it soon became clear that there was something – or someone – who could convince him to change his mind.
Ex-girlfriend Gemma Winter (Dolly Rose Campbell) was soon given a proposition – if she worked full time for him then he would agree to buy the Rovers and save it from developers.
Though Gemma was desperate to save the pub, she was concerned how husband Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) would react to her working so closely with Henry.
After some discussion, Chesney came round to the idea, and Gemma accepted Henry’s job offer.
This was good news for Jenny, who then received a visitor in the form of Henry himself.
The landlady was beside herself as Henry revealed that he had managed to convince his dad to buy the pub, and found it difficult to believe that there wasn’t an ulterior motive.
However, Henry revealed that she was still free to run the place however she wanted, including hiring staff, and that he could see how much the pub meant to the local community.
Thrilled Jenny headed out into the bar to reveal the good news, with henry offering everyone a drink on the house.
With Newton and Ridley’s backing, the Rovers lives to fight another day!
