The Voice: Olly Murs speaks emotionally about the loss of his friend
The Voice judge Olly Murs was reduced to tears during the latest episode of the ITV talent show after learning about a contestant’s song choice.
Coaches, will.i.am, Sir Tom Jones, Annie Marie and Olly returned to their seats for the next round of blind auditions on Saturday evening’s broadcast.
During the episode, Olly was moved by a singer, called Sheridan, who sang the Billie Eilish song Listen Before I Go which is about suicide. He pressed the red buzzer as he wanted to mentor Sheridan.
Olly didn’t realise the song was about suicide until the contestant explained the meaning behind it and said he used to volunteer for a charity offering support to those impacted by it.
“I am fairly active on TikTok and I posted this song, which is by Billie Eilish, and she herself dueted this song with me,” Sheridan explained.

Sheridan said the song was “effectively a suicide note” and The Heart Skips a Beat singer was visibly touched by the contestant’s voice and heartbreaking song.
Opening up about her personal life, Olly, 39, began: “It’s really mad on this show how we just meet strangers as coaches.
“Just hearing you speak, I didn’t know that song… That song was about suicide.
“And obviously, I lost er,” Olly couldn’t continue with his words and put his hands over his face as he started crying.
“I lost a friend to suicide a few years ago,” he tearfully explained as fellow judge Anne Marie rubbed his back to comfort him.
