Barbara Knox, a Coronation Street and TV legend, will open up about her personal life for the first time ever in a documentary hosted by presenter, actor and former Corrie star, Bradley Walsh.
In a one-off documentary, the Rita Tanner actress will celebrate her milestone 90th birthday with a special show set to air on ITV1 and ITVX later this year.
Rita has seen her fair share of drama ever since she arrived on the cobbles. She is most known for running The Kabin newsagents and fostering young people in Weatherfield. She looked after the likes of Jenny (Sally Ann Matthews) and Sharon (Tracie Bennett) and in recent years, took Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) under her wing.
Bradley Walsh, who played Danny Baldwin in the soap, will chat to Barbara as she looks back on the highlights of her television and theatre career. She will also share photos from her childhood and stories about her life away from the set, which she usually keeps private.
Having played Rita for over half a century, Barbara will also share her treasured memories from the role, revisit the tram accident from 1989 and tell Bradley about being awarded an MBE in 2010.
The documentary will also feature chats from many of Barbara’s past and present co-stars as they celebrate Corrie’s longest serving actress and the amazing impact she’s had on our screens.
Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment Commissioning at ITV, said:
‘It’s easy to throw the words “legend” and “icon” around, but Barbara Knox really does embody both of those terms. It’s a privilege to tell the story of one of British television’s most enduring stars as she celebrates a very special birthday.’
